As I mentioned in another review of book in this series (N Fla. and Panhandle), the Cape Cod book is much better at planning a really great trip, advising of fantabulous food stops, using the ferries to Nantucket and Martha's Vineyard....I didn't realize the authors were different in this series.....

Leaving for this area in a month and this book has given so much history and places to go and visit. Great guide for anyone visiting the area. It won't disappoint!

We had difficulty finding things, sometimes information for an attraction seemed out of place in the chapter. However, we did use the book a lot.

This book provided great information for getting around and seeing the sights in both Charleston and Savannah. It was an invaluable reference for a great vacation.

Lots of written material but not enough pictures describing what they r talking about.

While it's true that this guide doesn't contain colorful pictures (there are other guides that do that), it is well-written by someone who knows the area well. It is divided into sections for easy referencing, and the entries are supported by great detail. The author knows her stuff. I have consulted this guide repeatedly while planning my upcoming trip to Charleston.

The book covers a lot of material if you take into account the entire region represented...as a result, it will only have so much material before it resembles an encyclopedia. Having said that, Ms. McMillan does a credible job covering the basics, which may be sufficient for the casual observer. While I do recommend the latest edition of this book, if you plan to make a trip to Charleston or Savannah, I suggest getting an additional travel book or two to supplement this one.

There are several things I like about this book. First, there is its timeliness. Although all businesses eventually need to go through a transformation to survive, there is or soon will be a simultaneous, near universal need for it. As the authors note, the digital storm that has already swept through a number of industries – the retail, taxi, hotel, newspapers, telecommunications, and video viewing, to name a few – is coming to an industry near you. For many companies, the only way to survive this storm will be to undergo a dual transformation – where the core business is rejuvenated while at the same time a new growth business is created that draws on selected strengths of the old business (but doesn’t allow legacy systems and procedures to impede its development).The second thing I like about this book is its realism. So much of the business press is filled with quick-fix solutions and feel-good bromides. That’s not the case with Dual Transformation. The authors discuss at length the difficulties one encounters in a dual transformation, and they freely admit their own stumbles along the way – as investors in, consultants to, or executives of companies that have gone through transformations.A third thing to like about this book is that it is grounded in the world most of us inhabit. Books about transformation tend to dwell on the poster children of the digital era – Uber, airbnb, Facebook, Google, and the like. While the book mentions these firms, it dwells primarily on transformations made by incumbents in mundane businesses such as insurance, newspapers, and education. It even gives the example of a developing nation water utility that has been successfully transforming itself.A fourth strength of this book is that lays out the leadership and organizational challenges of achieving a dual transformation. Most business books are packed with inspiring stories that leave their readers with a false sense of how easy transformations of one sort or another are. Not these authors. The entire second half of the book addresses the issues of how one leads a dual transformation. The authors make it clear that dual transformation is not for the faint of heart – but at the same time they provide much helpful guidance for those on the journey.A fifth thing I like about this book is its generosity. Two of the three authors are consultants who have a vested interest in keeping their secret sauce to themselves. But the book’s appendix has a number of tools one can use for a self-guided transformation.I highly recommend Dual Transformation. There is much in it that is stimulating, insightful, and helpful. It could prove to be one of the seminal books for the era we have entered.

Scott's new book is simply excellent. Most large organizations struggle to get innovation activities going because they are victims of the existing business model. Current customers demand all of managers' attention as they provide most revenues. Getting "old" organization to do new tricks is hard, if not impossible. This is why most innovation projects fail. Can the established organization both cater to existing customers and position itself for the future? Yes it can, says Scott. Innovation activities must have two distinct approaches: one to reposition old business model and one to build a new business model. These two efforts require different execution, different competencies, different mindsets. As an icing on the cake, you will find many non-US case studies and examples in the book, which is quite refreshing relative to most innovation books focusing on Apple/Google/Amazon stories which are getting stale. As an author of a book on innovation myself, I say - kudos!

Really important book that provides a lot more depth to how an incumbent organization survives--and thrives--amidst disruption. We've heard the moniker "create an autonomous unit" for some time now, but that advice alone has felt incomplete because it ignores some organizations that seemingly have transformed through disruptive strategies without a wholly autonomous unit and it ignores the immense value--particularly resources, for example--that those organizations can bring to actually have an advantage over a startup player positioning themselves disruptively. Scott, Clark and Mark really clarify what autonomy must mean, how to create the right structures, and how to grow and manage your core while launching and leading something disruptive. Very practical, great case studies, and helpful.

A very well written and thoughtful treatment of THE largest issue facing business leaders today. Each and every business is either facing today, or will face in the not-to-distant future, the challenge associated with disruption of it's core profit-making line of business. The earlier a company recognizes and embraces the challenge, the easier it is to turn that challenge into opportunity. This book provides an actionable set of recommendations for how to both see disruption and how to make the most of the opportunity it presents. Properly applied, the principles contained in the book can create tremendous value for a company and its stakeholders. I highly recommend it.

Then read this book. She's not giving miracles or quick fixes. Instead she is sharing countless hours of research and experimentation. She doesn't judge, insist or make you feel less-than for the choices you've made in rearing your child. She gives reasonable, doable suggestions on how to make sleep time easier for you (and your child) no matter what age they are at. She also provides tools (log tables) to help you figure out what your patterns are. It is a very sweetly written book that made me feel better instantly. I would highly recommend it to any parent of a newborn-toddler!

Husband and I had been struggling with sleep since our baby was 4 months old. We started to sleep train and it was a disaster. Prior to that baby had always bed shared with us (after spending 3-4 months in a co-sleeper) so it was extremely hard trying to put him in a dark room all by himself. It just did not work. Our son cried for days on end and I really regret doing that.My husband found this book and bought it. I'd also seen it but wasn't impressed with reviews. Anyway, I started reading through it and became greatly encouraged by the authors assessments and advice regarding sleep around my baby's age (10 months at the time). I felt validated in my bed sharing philosophy and also felt like it helped to normalize what we were going through. A lot of websites that want you to buy (literally) into sleep training will pathologize your child's sleep when it isn't pathological! Sure enough, after employing some gentle sleep recommendations from this book, and trusting our mama/papa instincts, we saw results. For us, it was key to cut the night nursing as it was getting out of hand (3-4 times a night at 10 months!). I mean, I wanted to be one of these breastfeeding all night and day mamas but I couldn't function at my new job on the sleep I was getting. Anyway if you need some encouragement and some gentle suggestions then this book is for you. After reading I felt like I knew what to do the whole time and I was now able to listen to those instincts more effectively.

Hands down this book was a lifesaver and the best sleep book I read.My baby had food protein intolerance and she would wake in pain screaming for months. After a torturous elimination diet she went on hypoallergenic formula which helped her, but after months of moving from the Rock and play to bed sharing with tummy discomfort it was just easier to continue that way.Finally moved her from the rock and play to a bassinet around 5 months but she was still spending the majority of the night in my arms until she started army crawling and sitting up. At that point I knew I had to get her in the crib.At about 9 months she's already learned behaviors, a sleep regression is about to start. I knew I was in for it.I did a lot of research and knew CIO wasn't for us. Just to appease some people I actually tried it. Twice by the 15th minute of CIO her crying was so intense she threw up. Nope. no. Nothing about that makes me feel ok.So I tried the Sleep Lady Shuffle. That is ridiculous. It's basically modified CIO. It isn't gentle. You sit in the room while they cry and look right at you and wonder why you're not helping them. I was like, dam, if we're going to do CIO at least let me not be in this room watching her desperate face. I kept thinking I was doing it wrong. I'd try to calm her or put down and she'd feel the crib and start balling. That sleep lady turned the crib and bedtime into a scary monster.This book NO Cry Sleep Solution saved my sanity. I moved the air mattress into her room for 3 weeks. I started out following the bedtime routine and phases. I started laying down holding her which gradually changed to sitting holding, putting her down faster so she's aware of where she is keeping my hands on her in the crib. When she's first wake up I'd get her and lay down with her sometimes I fell asleep in there. Eventually it changed to where I could sit and comfort her and put her back down.Every idea and method in this book made sense to me. It actually is kind and gentle. There is no crying involved. She slept, I slept. She sleeps through the night now in her own crib while I'm in the other room and it only took us 6 weeks to figure out. She's excited during her bedtime routine and by the end she's putting her head down.

I bought this book because I was desperate to help my daughter sleep and use a more gentle approach to sleep training. I was looking for a method that minimized crying but what I learned from the methods outlined in this book was that crying is involved but you are with your child while they cry. I ended up doing the Ferber method and in 2-3 nights we saw a vast improvement. I decided it was better to allow some mild-moderate crying for a few days rather than have her cry on and off for a few weeks. In the long run I think our method allowed for less crying overall. I originally only read this book because I had to for a college course I am taking. I usually don't like to be "assigned" books to read but WOW - this was an amazing read. I had my doubts because I had never heard of the book before and there isn't much information about it/reviews for it online. Aside from the story itself being incredibly gripping and suspenseful, I enjoyed how it was written. Though confusing at first, Ms. Castro jumps back and forth between past and present events to tell her story in a way that ends up making the most sense in the end and it allows the reader to really reflect on her past and how it has shaped who she has become. Without giving away to much detail, her story is gut-wrenching at times so if you are easily triggered by stories of abuse (verbal, physical, sexual, etc.), suicide, eating disorders, etc. perhaps this book is not for you.

Joy Castro weaves a mesmerizing tale of a childhood fraught with abuse and dysfunction. Yet she does so with a creative structure, beginning at a point where we know she has survived before she delves into the muck of a mother not protecting her children from a menacing step-father and a well-meaning father who falls short in providing for them.. Castro's is a brave narrator, revealing the devices she used to protect herself while growing up and as well as acknowledging her inability to protect her younger brother. Many current memoirs appear exploitative, playing with the readers' emotions. This writer's direct and fierce narrative is more powerful by under-stating childhood environments that would have devastated less resilient souls. Read The Truth Book to better understand how to craft a heart-rending story.

I read this book some time ago, but it's a book that has stayed with me. Not only is the story honest, gripping, and important, but the prose is beautiful.

This book was in my opinion a great read, I enjoyed it. It was sad and inspiering. It isn't about Jeh. witnesses,as a whole, it was how her family lived as jeh.witnesses and the strugles her and her brother overcame. It is about hope and love.

I think I was expecting "more" from this book as far as size or images, based on the price, which seems quite high for a slim volume about the size of a Harlequin Romance. This is not an indictment of the author, but more of the publisher. This is a book written mainly for children, upper elementary or middle school grades. Warning: "The N Word" is included, as a quotation as historical fact, which does not bother me in the context, but parents/teachers may want to be prepared.The story of Willie O'Ree, "the Jackie Robinson of professional hockey" is an important story. O'Ree is much less well-known than Robinson, but no less important in the boundaries broken. Hockey remains probably the least diverse of professional sports in North America. O'Ree's accomplishment as the first person of African decent to break the color barrier cracked a door, but unfortunately it took several years after O'Ree's career ended for others of African or Native decent to join the ranks of professional hockey players.

The book description did not indicate that the book was a children's book. The writing was very juvenile. It covered the professional life of Willie O'Ree but I was anticipating a more adult focused biography.

Book does no mention of Don McKenney nor the rest of Valiant Boston Bruins of the Late 1950s!

I had to do a research project on him, and this book saved me. Without this book I wouldn't have been able to complete my project.

I've tried about half the muffin recipes in this book, and they've all been good to very good. The lemon poppy-seed alone is worth the price of the book, but you'll find the cranberry-orange, dried fig, cinnamon-crunch sweet potato and bacon Gruyere muffins, and in the bread section, the pumpkin bread with dates, are all a cut about average. I've some other muffin cookbooks, but this one is by far my favorite because there is nothing wimpy about these muffins, both the sweet and the savory are flavorful and tasty. Other books I've got seem afraid to make their muffins really taste like something; the W-S people don't have that problem.

Like nearly all Williams-Sonoma books, this one looks to have some terrific recipes but there are only 25 from which to choose and I have a sneaky suspicion that I won't be making the Spinach Muffins. Had I not already owned well over 100 cookbooks, I might have been more delighted that W-S included 15 cake and bread recipes but, in the end, there are NOT a lot of recipes. The ones I will consider Do Look Delicious!Had I been buying in a bookdstore, I'd have taken a pass on this one but it would be a lovely gift.

Beautiful and well thought out layout and compilation of recipes.I've used the blueberry muffin recipe multiple times now with different types of berries and add-ins and it's perfect every time. The goal is to bake my way through the book but the first recipe I tried has worked out so well and is so versatile that it's deterred me a bit from trying the rest.

I am so happy I found this book! I love muffins and have been looking for a good muffin recipe book. I make them all the time with my 3 year old. This book will not dissapoint!

Have used this book for years and just replaced it as the other is tattered from use and notes. Not a bad recipein the book. I either make muffins or loaf bread the recipes make the amounts so you can choose either. Delish!

I bought this book to make muffin tops. I've only tried the blueberry muffins so far, and they came out wonderfully! They were tender and moist, and certainly the muffin top is the best part of the muffin. The pictures are lovely and the directions very straightforward. I can't wait to make more. FYI, I made them in the Fat Daddio muffin top tins. Just delicious!

A lot of these recipes are not as healthy as they could be, but that's easily remedied. This book introduced me to a few new cooking techniques, such as lemon sugar.

This is the best Book on Muffins you can buy. The instructions are very clear, easy to read and understand. There are helpful tips on the ingredients throughout the book and there is a picture for every recipe! I love that. The recipes range from your basic blueberry to a fun Mediterranian style pesto muffin. All GOOD! We have really enjoyed this book and have spent many happy hours baking in the kitchen with it.
