This review is updated for the 3rd Edition.I've read many books on government contracting. I think this is the best primer on the market for small business owners and managers. Chapters are well-organized and the writing is succinct. The graphics are useful, including government forms, rate calculations, sample cost formulas, and more. The bid formula example for a small disadvantaged business and the progress payment schedule are just 2 of many excellent and easy-to-understand graphics.The author, Scott Stanberry, is well-known in the field because his successes in helping businesses to get established as government contractors. His book, now in its 3rd edition, has been the favorite beginning book for small business owners for several years.Federal contracting has grown steadily for many years now for various reasons. Even though the government is now bringing a lot of this work in-house instead of continuing to outsource it, most economists expect the sector to remain a large part of the national economy. Since the scope of federal procurement is so large, it makes sense for many businesses to evaluate the potential benefits of becoming vendors to the federal government.

Good read for laying the groundwork in Fedral Contracting. But at the end of the day, it’s on the person to take measures to find their niche and research further. In the world of Federal Contracts, you have to be willing to put the work in outside the normal day to day job. Learn everything from the solicitation phase to sending submittals to ordering materials. Etc. This book isn’t a bad start on this long road.

This is a great source for understanding what involves in government contract. This does not necessary the perfect guide, but enough to comprehend the process. This is a great book if you want to see the blue prints of government contract process. The deeper knowledge and skills may require, but this will set you with the base to build on.

As a contracting official with the feds, I have found that this is a super resource for someone who wants to or is already dealing with the Federal Gov't in the contracting arena. You can't go wrong with this book. Keep it handy, you will not regret having it on your desktop.

I am glad I didn't know this was written for young people!I love to write and like to think I have a wonderful novel and play in the works yet they never seem to get finished because I am frequently paralyzed by perfection. How Writers Work is a great antidote for the miserable disease of perfect procrastination. Thoughtful, insightful and joyfully embracing it addresses the curious and open child that still lives within our heart and in the back of our mind, you remember... the adventurous little kid who never associated cats pooping in sand with making mud pies and eating them?I loved this book and will keep it as my go-to kick in the pants when I get all tangled up in my perfect fishing nets. Yes, this book has many wonderful ideas about how to write creatively, but more importantly, it reminds we somewhat anal adults how to direct our simpler, inner genius so we can easily whip up marvelous mud pies instead of getting bogged down perfecting the art of tarts.

This book is unique in that it talks directly to kids about writing, in a personal rather than a "textbook" manner. I can't think of any other books for kids that do this (other than the others by Fletcher listed at the end), and it is so valuable! The book is also simply very interesting and well-written.This book is not about the craft and mechanics of writing, but about how to establish that all-important *habit* of writing. It's about all the elements that enable and support a person to actually write. I don't know whether this book or "A Writer's Notebook" by Ralph Fletcher should be read first; they are both so important. I'm thinking of having my students read them concurrently.I love the fact that Fletcher does not teach "the process," but rather encourages kids to find their own process. He cautions students not to "prewrite the life out of their topic" through excessive prewriting. It is also made clear, through the book's inspiring interviews with children's writers, that the processes that these successful writers use differ greatly from each other. One of the authors says she would never talk about her topic before writing about it, because "ideas bring with them an energy to write them. If I talk about them instead, I lose that initial energy that's crucial." I am a prolific writer, have almost never written an outline (before writing) in my life, and have always disagreed with requiring kids to do so (see Peter Elbow books for more on the process I use - freewriting).Some of the topics this book goes into are where to write, finding an idea, brainstorming, getting started, amount to write, rereading, handwriting vs. using a computer, research, rough drafting, revision, and the proper place of grammar and spelling (definitely never "disturb the flow," when you're writing well, to deal with them). In all these topics, a variety of options are given, with liberal use of quotes from both kids and adult authors.Fletcher makes it clear that "getting an idea" and "getting started" are two distinct activities, and not necessarily related. It's common to have a great idea that you never bring to fruition, and even more common to just start writing, with no ideas initially. In fact he goes into the value of writing "just a bunch of slop," and valuing it as a form of "exercising."His overall message is that although some people are born or inspired writers, for most people, writing is hard work. You have to live a full life to have material; be conscientious in capturing those inspired thoughts and moments in your writer's notebook; do the tough work of writing something bad as a first draft; be open to "radical surgery" type revision; reread your own work incessantly; solicit feedback; be a careful editor; and look for appropriate places to publish.Lastly, I read this book as a mother of three and a teacher who supervises homeschooling families. Since reading this (and Fletcher's other wonderful books: "A Writer's Notebook" and "Live Writing"), I haven't been able to stop writing poetry myself (which is not something I normally do)!

There were some interesting ideas. The author walks you through the entire creative process, including stuff that some might consider obvious - e.g. make yourself comfortable when you write. Unfortunately, my enjoyment of the book (kindle) was marred by the numerous spelling errors. The author does advise wannabe writers to focus on the ideas and not to worry too much about spelling :-) However, I think that in this case, the book was scanned and converted to digital format, but no one bothered to proof-read the final product. A book on writing (even if it was only an e-copy) should not be filled with so many spelling mistakes, and so I gave it three stars instead of four.

Very nice book. I enjoyed reading it but I wanted a more instructional book and it wasn't what I was looking for. It gave me good Ideas but not enough details.

The simple and friendly writing actually help me quite a bit when I feel discouraged about my own writing. I'm not a young writer anymore, but still find this book useful. It's a good reminder that simplifying things can really help with writers block.

Love the lettering ideas and the easy to follow instructions!

I have done calligraphy for friends in the past, and I also do a lot of hand lettering and chalkboard art and was looking for a book to help me improve. I dug through a lot of reviews before finding this book, and I can't be more pleased with it!In skill, I am somewhere in the Intermediate area, but this has beginning tips as well as pointers on working with watercolor and gouache. Molly Suber Thorpe gives helpful pointers on nibs, nib holders, ink, and paper(which is worse - having paper that your nib skips on, or the sound of your nib skipping on paper?) for those just starting out, and then segues into writing - "letters first, then words, then sentences." There are some wonderful reference pages with upper- and lower-case letters of the alphabet, followed by a page with numbers and punctuation. Some reviewers complained that the pages are ordered by letter of the alphabet, but I prefer to look at individual letters rather than alphabets. (A note on the printing - the background of the letter pages has a grid pattern, and in my book the page with Ss and Ts has the background grid visible over the letters. I found it slightly distracting but not detrimental; I'll add a photo showing what I mean.)The book explains spacing, working with rulers or with a light box to achieve a straight line, as well as digitizing one's calligraphy. Writing with watercolor and gouache are covered(as well as ink and watercolor washes in general) in the Intermediate Technique section. Her unique approach to teaching separates the meaning of the words from learning letters so that you’re not caught up in the meaning of the words or sentences but pulled instead into the playfulness of creating letters. She goes through everything that is needed to equip your studio and be ready for any of the projects in the book. I am truly inspired! I cannot put your book down!

I have had so much fun using the book this week, for letter construction and the sample projects. She groups each letter in the alphabet and shows a ton of variations on how to draw the capital, and then how to draw a few variations of the lowercase letters. I highly recommend it.

This book is exactly what I was looking for - it provides a concise overview of tools, background history, font examples, branching out into new font design basics, and DIYs. Each section is just long enough to be informative and keep your attention through the whole thing so that you actually read it.I wanted to learn how to write more modern calligraphy that you see in some of the popular wedding fonts like "bombshell" and "jacques and jilles" without it being a huge history of typography and serifs, etc. This book, with its example pictures and overall layout is very aesthetically pleasing, and it definitely has pages and pages of fonts to practice too that are all very beautiful and subtly different. It also is fairly short, so you can actually read through the whole thing without too much investment of time, which helps since you'll be excited to try out all her different scripts. I would highly recommend this book if you are looking to dabble/learn just enough to write very professional, modern "wedding" fonts with minimal extraneous info.

Not in as good of shape as listed. Pages are bent and there are marks in the book. The spine isn't as crisp as it should be based on the condition. The book itself is very informative. It's quite detailed.

An excellent book to have. Has all you would expect for tap dance. Would like to see all who tap or are learning to tap to have one in their library to consult. It will be used often.

If you are interested in both the history of tap as well as the individual steps you'll want to own this book. It's a great reference book, and also a joy to leaf through and learn new things.

I found out about this book from a choreographer friend of mine - we were in a musical together, and she referred to this book for an easy time-step variation that the whole cast could do. I got a look at it, and knew I had to have a copy! If you have taken any tap, or worked along with a video, this is an excellent supplement! It's been a lot of fun figuring out assorted steps :)

Excellent book for baby food. My children are grown however I got this for other reasons too. Great ideas for even an older person who has trouble chewing. I wished I had this when my children were younger

This is a really solid cookbook. The recipes sound delicious, and I like that the author teaches you how to make things ahead of time. It does have a couple of flaws, though. The main flaw is that the recipes, at least those in the single-ingredient purees section (the only ones I've tried so far), are not very clear, particularly on how much water to add when blending. For example, many recipes say to add the steamed vegetable/fruit and "the steaming water" to the blender. To me, this means that I need to add ALL of the steaming water. The same recipes also list "1/4 cup of water, plus more if needed" in the ingredients section - I haven't figured out where the 1/4 cup of water is supposed to come into play, as it isn't described in the recipe steps. As a result, a couple of the recipes made double the amount that they were supposed to and ended up very watery. Now I know to only add as much of the steaming water as you want, depending on what you would like the texture of the puree to be. I just think this could have been more clear. That said, as I mentioned above, the recipes sound really yummy, and I look forward to my little one graduating to the next food stages!

Great book for easy and versatile baby food! Easy to follow with a lot of useful information. I love how many of the early, pureed recipes can be frozen and then used for the later recipes. Being able to freeze baby food has been such a time-saver! It's so convenient to have one book that can span from infancy to toddlerhood - will be using this for years to come!

Great recipes. I love it. The recipes work great with the pouch system that you can get on Amazon.You can make a great variety of meals, snacks and desserts then you can just put them in the pouches and freeze them. The recipes are really good.

This book was not helpful for me. Mostly different kinds of purees which I did it in my own for my first. I was expecting a lot more variety.

I bought 2 different baby food-making books and this was by far my favorite. It tells you the age to start introducing which food combinations, and what tastes best with each combination. I love it and its helped tremendously with my son.

Giving it five stars even though I just received it yesterday. I had read about this book, in a Sue Henry mystery novel and weaving piqued my interest so followed her lead and bought this book which is supposed to be good for beginners and experienced weavers. Opened the book and at first it was daunting and I got upset but after calming down I see I can learn a lot from it if I take my time. I have already learned from the book so just that brief knowledge rates five stars and as I start weaving and progress, I hope to be able to use the more advanced parts. I like that the author says you don't even have to BUY a loom, you can make a simple one yourself and use nature's tools instead of buying them....upon Googling DIY looms, even an empty picture frame can be used as a simple loom, and sticks.

."The Weaving, Spinning and Dyeing Book" should be considered a foundation book for each of the three crafts: weaving, spinning, and dyeing. The instructions are clearly written and well-illustrated, so that even a novice can be confident of a successful launch into any one of these crafts. It also provides a sound basis for more advanced endeavors, either by pursuing more advanced studies or creating one's own projects. A truly beautiful resource book.

This book delivers on it's title.I especially love the finishing chapter for weaving.The weaving section teaches multiple loom techniques to weave including tablet (card) weaving, Navaho loom, backstop loom, and others.

This is the first book I ever recommend to someone interested in weaving, spinning or dying. It was the first book I picked up 30-some years ago when I began my journey as a weaver/spinner. I didn't know it when I bought it, but it came to be the very most useful book I own ...my library is very full of weaving and spinning books. The line drawings are gorgeous and clear and fully support the text. It is a well thought presentation. I treasure the book... AND wore my first copy out and had to buy me another one!

I bought this one for my daughter, I have my own, its inspired me for years. Beautiful line drawings. It should be in every weaver, spinner, dyers library. I undeserved the author has passed on. She will live forever in this book.

I haven't had time really to get into it as much as I would like to but so far it appears to be just what I needed.

Over, and over again, this has been my go to book for weaving and spinning fiber. A must for dyeing fiber as well.
