I used to think that comics were generally terrible and wasn't particularly interested in them. I have a lot of first volumes, not too many second volumes. But this comic. Squirrel Girl is just insanely good. Every. Single. One. The fake social media things are amazing too. I posted like three shots of jokes from this comic on my facebook page, then stopped because it was going to get to the point that I'd get sued for putting up the entire comic and just writing "<3" after everything.Yes.Twelve stars. ... This rating system only allows five. I think it's broken. >:(

I am glad that there are a few people that are writing comics these days that are actually fun. I don't know about you, but I'm quite tired of the grim and gritty comics that are the rage these days. The Unbeatable Suirrel Girl is a great antidote to those kind of comics. What's more, this is actually one of the few comic books out these days that I would actually give to a kid to read. Fun for adults and kids.

The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl is a hilarious read. It might be the comic I look forward to reading the most on a monthly basis and consistently has me smiling, if not outright laughing, at each and every page. It takes both a loving and irreverent look at the Marvel Universe, something that can sometimes end up bogged down in itself. It needs something to poke fun at it and Squirrel Girl does just that.The reason I am giving this 4 stars instead of the 15 dozen it deserves is not because of the content but because of the packaging. As far as trade paperbacks go, this one does a decent job of compiling the stories. It keeps the bottom of the page jokes (hint: look at the bottom of every page!) intact and does what it should. But it feels short. It's still worth every penny, but I feel like this and volume 1 (The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl Vol. 1: Squirrel Power) should have been packaged together.

She's totally goofy and kooky, but the way she handles life is the way all superheroes should do it. She knows how to tame the big baddies. Anyone who can make Galactus think twice is alright with me. And shattering the iron demeanor of the illustrious Doctor Doom ( a legend in his own mind ). The Fantastic Four should be taking notes.

I, a 45-year old man, husband, father of three, and long time comicbook reader, enjoy this book immensely, and the best part is I can then hand it straight to my Squirrel Girl-loving 6-year old without worrying about the images she'll see or words she'll read. It's a true all-ages book that offers something different but no less excellent to each age group.

Omg this was just as good as volume 1. Squirrel Girl is so funny and adorable and charming and overall just awesome. This series is seriously the greatest thing ever. So. Many. Feels. Plus Loki makes an appearance in this and I love Loki.

Fans of Ryan North (Dinosaur Comics, "To Be or Not To Be") will not be disappointed in The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl. Both this volume and its predecessor are wonderful comic options for teenagers. Favoring listening and social skills above brawn, Doreen (Squirrel Girl) navigates her first semester of college. She shows excitement for things like club rush and being a good roommate. Even when villains would try to force her hand to violence, Squirrel Girl looks for ways to solve problems peacefully. One may worry that this aversion to violence would lead to a rather bland read, but one would be wrong. The inclusion of hallmarks like Deadpool Cards, over the top puns, and truly above average Q&As at the end of each issue keep the reader amused and craving more and more.Having worked with librarians in public schools and with many students at all reading levels, it is my belief that these volumes are appropriate for readers as young as 4th grade and that these volumes would be great incentives to those who struggle with reading. Each page delivers great humor for the reader's effort.I purchased The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl Vol 1 for Christmas for my 14 year old daughter (She is an avid reader and has Autism). By the end of Christmas day, my daughter had finished it. Her sister (age 12) and I both finished it that day, too, with my husband following suit the next day (when we stopped hogging it). I immediately ordered Vol 2 and, sure enough, the pattern repeated as soon as it arrived. I highly recommend it.

Excellent little history book. Who knew that the modern olympic games evolved from a few 19th century health and cultural clubs created by German immigrants. Fascinating insight on two different (but related) sub cultures: German immigrants and the "physical fitness" movement.

I lived in Cincinnati for many years, but reading this book was fascinating and eye-opening. While I knew some history on how German immmigrants influenced and shaped the city, I knew nothing of the unique sub-culture led by the Cincinnati Turners. From reading the book, I could visualize myself in that era, walking the streets of Over the Rhine, participating in the Turnverein firsthand, ordering a stein from the barkeep at the Turnhall, and engaging in political discussion with my extended German family. Honestly, I think it would be interesting to make a movie out of this, following closely the lives of a few of the families. I highly recommend the book not only for those who live or have lived in Cincy, but also anyone interested in American history and how immigrants helped shape the world we live in today.

Very well written introduction for Android Developers! Book's author has a great sense of humor, with quite funny comments sprinkled throughout the book. The book assumes no background in both Java or Android. Highly recommended!

This is a very comprehensive books for learning the in-and-out of Android Development. I dabbled into this field by myself and stumbled A LOTS cause while I did have some background in web development (JavaScript, HTML, CSS, PHP, etc), those knowledge don’t translate well into Java, especially Java for Android because Java by nature is a much more stricter language. This book makes many annoying blocks very clear to me. Overall, excellent book for inspiring Android Developers.I only have one minor complain. It is hard at times to follow the authors reference about a block of code because you have to flip back and forth.

As complete software beginner in Java...I gotta say some of the things were not clearly explained. For Some reason the Author didn't bother explaining it....For Example, creating a AVD emulator(Which is important to know for creating apps)....In the book he pretty much said go figure it out yourself, he does respond to emails so I guess that's a plus?? but it gets really annoying when having to always call him up.... Not really a go to book for me.

So far, this book has been excellent. I had a problem running my first app so I emailed the author. I've never emailed the author of a book before and I wasn't expecting a personal reply...maybe a reply from a support person. He responded quickly with the information that I needed, so that was a very nice surprise. He was very helpful. I'm running apps successfully now.I'll leave an update to this review when I finish the book, but so far it's been great. I had tried learning Java from a different book, and while that book was accurate and good, it was abstract and didn't have practical real-world examples like this one. It's making learning easier.

For what you get, this IS a good book. However, there are a few things about it that I think detract just enough to only give the book 4/5.1. The caves are all North American - no mention of the rest of the world. That said, the caves featured are abot the best in North America.2. The other articles on cave geology and biology are good, but there are better ones. If you really want to know more, Cave Geology by Arthur Palmer and The Biology of Caves and Other Subterranean Habitats (Biology of Habitats) by David Culver are the ones to get.So yes, this is a great "coffee table" book with some good generalist info. Though I think that the old Time Life book Underground Worlds (Planet Earth) is better all round, even if the photos aren't as good as this new one.Well worth having if you get a good deal on the price, bt it's not the absolute best general book on caves around.

I purchased this book sight unseen and for one reason - it was written by Michael Ray Taylor (I'd read bathroom cleaner cans if he wrote the text for them). When I opened the box, I was stunned to find a coffee-table type book filled with incredibly beautiful photographs and great text. _Caves: Exploring Hidden Realms_ is a (stand alone, IMO) companion to the IMAX film of the same name; Kerbo's pictures are mind-blowing and the text is classic Taylor - accessible, entertaining, educational and just downright fun.As an added treat, the microbiology angle of _Dark Life_ finds its way into _Caves: Exploring Hidden Realms_ as well. A bit of the text was taken from _Cave Passages_ but a very small bit and this didn't diminish my enjoyment. I can't say enough positive things about this book. Buy it!

I used this book, and the related IMAX video, as part of a cave biology experience for undergraduate biology majors this year. Both the book and the video are fantastic; I challenge anyone to consider biology boring after reading/viewing them. To prepare for a spring break "wild cave tour," our students read Taylor's book, watched the video, then had a presentation on caving by Taylor. He also accompanied us on the caving trip. (It doesn't hurt that both of us teach at the same university....) The students loved it all. They asked for, and received, permission to sample for microbes in the cave, and have grown up their bugs. We don't expect to find anything earthshaking, as human contamination even in lightly used caves is apparently ubiquitous, but this really got students excited. I enthusiastically recommend the book and the video combined, and following it up even with a trip to a developed cave would be a great experience for students.

Initially, I bought this book merely to be supportive of DeVON Franklin. I celebrate the integrity of his persona; I also respect the quality and morality of his work in entertainment. The book is so transparent, complete with first-hand testimony and revelation. I learned things about the male mind that changed my approach to certain things. He shares critical advice about gender and relationships, and he makes me feel that there's no longer any need for the BATTLE OF THE SEXES. This book completely changed how I view men. So eye opening and real. I have learned so much and I am only half way through the book. I can see this will be a go to book often when I am struggling with behaviors from my husband that make zero sense to me! Thank you Devon your candor was so enlightening.

I have unfortunately personally experienced much of what DeVon Franklin writes about in this excellent primer on dealing with men when they exhibit behaviors that are out of control. Reading his brilliant and compassionate insight into the minds of these types of men gave me a new sense of freedom and comfort. He was able to explain much of the why some men behave so wrecklessly and how it most often has little to do with the women in their lives. He also gives much practical good advice to make life better for all involved. Fantastic book on the subject!!

I’m very supportive of Devon Franklin and would have only done myself a disservice to have not invested my time to reading another great book written by him. There are two types of pricing strategies: value based and cost based. The value based strategy is based on the final big value the client will realize using the product while the cost based is dependent upon the cost incurred to deliver the product.

I first read this book some years ago when I was building an early adopter product . It's concerns (going mainstream, appealing to pragmatic buyers) seemed remote and misplaced. Having been through the chasm I have grown to appreciate it's sound advice. What is necessary to achieve early product success is very different from enduring , mainstream success. Building a whole product solution is as important, if not moreso, than marketing a cutting edge subcomponent . Valuable Field guide to a difficult problem

This is my second time through this canonical tech marketing book. The book explains the keys to bringing new tech to market. In particular, the ideas of narrowing to a nitche and assembling a whole product when crossing the chasm. This helps mainstream customers buy as they see a product as a market leader. This is when a category transitions from a product-focused sale to techies and visionaries, to a market-drive sale to more pragmatic and risk adverse customers.

This book offers a true blueprint for companies looking to market and sell innovative high-tech products in a mainstream market.This blue print begins by segmenting customers into groups with different needs and goals (innovators, early adopters, early majority, late majority and laggards). These groups do not form a continuous spectrum. Indeed, there are gaps that exist that any company looking to succeed needs to understand and bridge. Once the company identifies the highly specific target segment within a mainstream marketplace, they then proceed to understanding their compelling reasons to buy. Then they must build around the notion of a "whole product" with the aid of partners as required to make that a reality. To further help the customer, the company must clearly define their competition and how they position themselves with respect to them. Finally comes selecting a distribution channel and ensuring that the sales force is empowered to deliver the required results.From my perspective, this book helps any IT executive understand how to better work with technology vendors. In addition to helping them identify the ones that are indeed there to stay and grow. It also pushes IT executives to make fundamental decisions on where in the consumer spectrum they want to position themselves based on their needs and the risks that they are willing to undertake.In all a very good and informative read. Despite it being originally written in the 90s the fundamentals of the blueprint still hold true. This is a true bible in the field of technology marketing. On the critiquing side, I would say that this book could have been written in a more concise fashion. It seemed slow at times, when reading it. Also, it would have been great to see updated examples of the principles described which would make it easier to reflect upon from a more recent perspective.

There are a number of great insights in this book, especially for engineers who are beginning to climb up out of their heavy technical world and want to have true and serious impact on the real world. I was a bit disappointed to see that the transformation to the online version appears to have at least one recurring defect. It looks like some symbol used in lists in the paper book does not translate properly into a symbol in the on-line version. What we see on the Kindle Reader on the iPad are lines starting with "535." It would be nice if there were someway to point out these defects to someone with an expectation of this copy automatically get updated at some point in time.Even with this annoyance, which caused me to downgrade the book by one star, the book is very readable and useful. I was also a bit surprised to see that the Kindle version of the book is slightly more expensive than the paper version, which makes no sense to me at all!
