This guide has a good collection of waterfall hikes in Washington State. The descriptions are detailed and other information such as GPS coordinates, fees to be paid, directions and difficulty of hike are provided. Color pictures of the falls and simple but sufficient trail maps. I've taken some of the hikes and can say that the information is correct. Found some waterfalls in the book I've never heard about before, so I think the authors have done their research well.

We have used another book in the past, but bought this one and the Oregon one for more concise information. We were only in WA for a week, but found this book useful with directions and skill level of trails. We plan on more trips to WA in the future and hope to see more waterfalls. It doesn't have all the falls, but with the 2 (A Waterfall Lovers Guide, NW (WA, OR, ID) by Gregory A. Plumb) books, we can find a lot of different waterfalls around the state.

I bought this as a Christmas gift for a dear friend who is new to Washington State and is an outdoor enthusiast, as well as photographer. He loves to photograph waterfalls, and he was very happy when he opened this present. He pointed to the "Falcon Guide" logo on the cover and mentioned that they make excellent guides. He was very happy, which in turn made me happy. There is nothing better than finding the perfect gift for someone.

I had to buy this book for a class. Since I don't even remember the class it was for I am giving it one star because it was pointless to have purchased it in the first place.

This book is the most interesting text books that I have had to read for school. I enjoyed reading this book. This is one that I will always keep on me as a reference. Calabrese had written this book as if it was a note book for you to review. It is very easy to understand. I am one that can't stay focused while reading and this book had me focused the whole time and not once did I have to reread a part over. There is a CD that is included with the book. The CD is outstanding; it makes you feel like you are talking to Calabrese himself. He goes into great detail explaining the information to you on common questions. There is also a part for test taking questions for each chapter. After answering the question it goes into detail on the answer for more of an explanation on why that is the answer to the question. I would recommend this book to anyone that is looking for a book to read on Information Security and also as a text book for school.

This book focuses on what is, or should be, the most valuable part of any information system, the information. The book guides the reader from the very basics (the definition of information), explains cryptography, then recommends methods of securing the information system. The book is intended for college students but would benefit anyone who has an interest in learning more about information security and why it is important in the Internet age. The CD included with the book is very well done. It has many programming examples as well as interactive chapter tests and question sessions with the author.

The book, The New Northwest Passage by Cameron Dueck, was well written and described the shortfalls and strengths of his boat, the stress during times of worry with fog, ice and rough weather, as well as the happy encounters with the native people, the beautiful northern lights and the whole adventure of being in a less traveled landscape. I learned things I didn't know but I have not really changed my mind to thinking man is the main cause of the warming trend. Obviously there have been other times of climate change throughout the ages. I also had not realized that Canada played such a large part of the Northwest's Passage history. At any rate the adventure of reading the book was rewarding.

I found this a very honest account of joys and difficulties encountered along the way for this momentous journey. It was especially interesting to me as I will be travelling the north west passage in about two weeks time, although in a slightly larger vessel.

Fascinating....Raw... Historical..Humble..Nail biting... Educational..Great story for anyone interested in the polar north....Thank you for this tour of the north and its social challenges...A must read... Cameron you are my idol

The condition of the book is good!

I loved reading "The New Northwest Passage". At first I hesitated to read about a sailing adventure and about the Arctic, two topics I knew nothing about. I had read some books on climate change though. But once I started reading it, I had a hard time putting it down. I especially appreciated all the research Cameron Dueck had done on the history and the background of customs and lifestyles of the people he and his crew had visited on this voyage. "The New Northwest Passage" is very educational about an area of North America that most of us will never see and most of us hardly ever hear about. Cameron Dueck's passion for sailing, for the outdoors and for adventure just jumps at you from the page. His writing style is beautiful and easy to read, even for someone who isn't familiar with the topics and is an ETL (English as Third Language).

I just completed reading the New Northwest Passage given to me at Christmas by an elderly aunt who said, "I thought you'd have something in common with this guy". She was dead on.My wife and I lived aboard our sailboat in Victoria,BC, during the author's trip preparations. I did hear about Silent Sound, but sadly we never crossed paths. I have been a sailor for over four decades and relate to many aspects of the joys and challenges of extended cruising, in unknown waters, sometimes with novices. Also, I have spent many years now travelling to the NWT, Yukon, Nunavut, Nunavik, and Labrador working with the Inuit in areas of mental health and social development. As is the case with many authors who I read, I was prepared to disagree with Dueck's insights about the Inuit people, as many non-aboriginals just don't "get them". But I found myself nodding and smiling at his assessments of life up North, and the generous character of the people. Over the years I may have had the chance to meet more healthy leaders, Elders, and youth than he did, and so I am more optimistic about their future. Nevertheless, I felt the author presented a fair and honest portrait of these remarkable people and their territory, and was really fortunate to have experienced the depth of their hospitality, and to share it with us in a compelling read.

If you are an armchair adventurer as I am, you might find this record of a dangerous journey to be just the thing. There is a film, which I had seen first, of this same journey and so whilst reading I had these wonderful pictures playing in my mind - pristine landscapes, mournfully isolated villages, joyfully hospitable people.The author manages to convey the risks well enough for me to think that the crew were all quite MAD, in the British sense of the word. But then, if it weren't for those who are willing to set out from the shore, we'd all know a lot less about our world, wouldn't we?Although my family and I leave a rather small footprint, I wouldn't call myself an environmentalist. However, the author helps make the connection between climate change and survival for those who live in the remote communities of Canada's far north. Having grown up on the Canadian prairies one might not think I had anything in common with those living in Sachs Harbour or Tuktoyaktuk, but I found there was a similarity in the kind of hospitality the author spoke of, the simple "you're welcome to come to our house and do your laundry" sort of hospitality, and of course, the connection to the land for one's survival. Weather is everything for people who farm or people who depend on hunting/fishing for their survival. I wanted to meet those people and share a meal together - although perhaps not a meal of Beluga whale and caribou kidney. I could "feel" what it would be like to sit around the table and hear their stories.What I found most surprising and fascinating is the way the author conveyed the realities of life on the Silent Sound during those months. This was also one of the reason why I am so thankful that I could enjoy this adventure vicariously. Three or four people who are cold, crabby and cramped on a boat for several months together? The author not only conveyed the tension, but pretty much bares himself to the reader in the process. You get to be inside his head. I'm pretty sure it wouldn't have been the SILENT sound if I'd been on the boat with them.Besides being an educational read, it's also a darn good adventure story! Give it a read and then keep your eyes open for a chance to see the award-winning film.

Helpful book for those considering this journey. Interesting to hear from the people who live there in the Arctic. A wonderful story and a good read for adventurers.

Helped a lot in my loss !

First book I read after I lost my dog on Christmas Eve. I lost her suddenly so some of the stuff didn't apply to me, but overall this helped me understand the loss more so and it was a good book to read first after her death. You just don't know where to start. There was a good amount of various spiritual ideas in the book, but I also got a lot of other help from the book.

Pet Loss is a book that every person who has a pet should read. It deals with a sensitive subject in a thoughtful way. It covers many aspects of dealing with the death of a beloved pet. The information is a part of caring for the soul and also has prayers for your beloved pet.

When my German Shepherd died I was given three books. This was one, and the best. I'm married man with two kids. The kids were devastated, as was my wife & I. This author writes from the heart. There is a special chapter on the difficult decision of euthansia, which we needed because Teg had cancer, and a chapter on how-to help children cope. What sets this book a part from the others is that there is no psycho-babble. No new age theatrics. The author writes from a generic spiritual angle that allows you to tap into your own spirituality, even if you feel that you have none. She presents how different world religions view pet loss and how they counsel their congregations. This is just a great book that should be on every pet lover's shelf. One word of caution - make sure you get the book by JULIA Harris. It was released 2003 by Lantern Books. There is an older book by the same title written by Eleanor Harris and it's different.

If it weren't for the fence-straddling on religious views I probably would have rated this book higher. But when I read a book I want to know the author has answers and is strong on them. this is a book purchased for a health care course. It does a really good job explaining the ins and outs of health care finance and the practice questions at the end of each chapter really reinforce the material.

The book itself was perfectly fine, it was required for one of my classes. It was in good condition. As far as the context within the book, it was very straight forward and extremely dry. After the 5/6 chapter I found myself having to remind myself to focus. Learned a lot though.

I purchased a used textbook listed as being in “good” condition. What I received was a book in well-worn, fair condition. The outside is dirty and repaired with tape and the inside binding is cracked in several places with the stitching exposed. Not a good value for the money. Disappointed.

My book is really gross. There are boogers and hairs on the pages and I feel like I should constantly be washing my hands during and after I use it. I understand it’s a rental and that’s what I’m paying for, but I just can’t help being grossed out.

John Berger was born in London in 1926. He is well known for his novels and stories as well as for his works of nonfiction, including several volumes of art criticism. His first novel, A Painter of Our Time, was published in 1958, and since then his books have included Ways of Seeing, the fiction trilogy Into Their Labours, and the novel G., which won the Booker Prize in 1972. In 1962 he left Britain permanently, and lived in a small village in the French Alps. He died in 2017.

This book is an extended essay on the work of Dr. John Sassall, a country General Practicioner (GP), in a poor area of Britain. Integrated into this book are a series of often striking photographs taken by Berger's collaborator Jean Mohr. The photos complement Berger's insightful comments on Sassall's work. Berger and Mohr appear to have spent a good deal of time with Sassall and his patients and must have earned the trust, not only of Sassall, but of his patients. Berger terms Sassall "A Fortunate Man" not because of good luck or unusual talent but because Sassall is a person whose work is directly connected with basic existential questions and meaning. The portrait of Sassall is unsentimental, clear, and admiring. Sassall is not just a highly competent and dedicated physician, he is a man who feels compelled to use his occupational life in a quest to explore basic questions about the nature of human relationships and community. This need drives him to be an exceptionally good physician and to involve himself deeply in the life of his rather insular community. While Sassall is an unusual man and physician, many aspects of his experiences in dealing with patients cast light on doctor-patient relationships in general. As a physician, I found Berger's analysis of many of these issues insightful and useful. Berger proceeds to larger issues of how society values life and work. The photographs by Jean Mohr are among the most striking and emotional depictions of medicine in the late 20th century and the book has become a widely referenced example of combining narrative and photographs in the documentary style.Anyone who wishes to understand the essence of the doctor patient relationship or the doctor community relationship should own this book and read it. It is a classic.

Being quite fond of John Berger's writings I came to this early one after having read all the others.This author is one I am most likely to reread.Enjoy some time.

This strikes me as a book to be read for people reckoning with career and life choices. It is a rich and complex look at a country doctor who has made a life of helping others, but not in some glorified Ghandi-like way-- this man is down to earth and the descriptions of his life are wonderfully down to earth too.

As a practicing Family Physician, I can say that John Berger captures vividly that gray area of awareness in which we operate. Seldom are the efforts of a primary care provider clearly highlighted and valued beyond the moments shared between healer and patient. While understandably dated, the feelings of a doctor caring for the vulnerable are truly and respectfully reflected in the prose. The photos only add to the quietly dramatic story of one extraordinary physician carrying on the ancient practice - to heal, to relieve suffering, to walk along with our patients in their journey.

as a physician and surgeon, I felt deeply moved by John Berger's words and Jean Mohr's pictures... despite the awesome advancements in both medicine & surgery, the essence of physician-hood lies within those finely distilled moments between physician and patient. The relationship between physician and patient has slowly eroded since Berger's extended essay. Yet as I intermittently re-read the text and stare at the all-too-familiar scenes of suffering and personal anguish, I experience a sense of hope and become acutely aware of the necessity of remaining a staunch advocate for my patients.

This was a candid account of David’s cycling career. It is an engaging account of his cycling career. The highs and lows; the wins and losses. It is definitely worth reading. Enjoyable and educational for cyclists who want to know more about the inner workings of the Peloton and Pro Cycling Teams. I want to say a big thank you and well done to Mr. Miller on this good work. He definitely garnered more respect from me personally.

David Miller is one of my favorite pros! I was super pissed that Garmin failed to honor his career and left him off their Tour roster in his final year! Justic may have been how poorly the team did that year. While Dave may have pulled his punch with this book he did call out the lack of class of JV and others! More to the point he once again demonstrated his own class, ability to tell a story and real passion for the sport we all love. This is perhaps the best follow up to his first book and I hope this is the 2nd of many books to come....

This book has gotten somewhat mixed reviews in the media and I am not really sure why. It's smart, funny, and seems to have capured Millar's final year; a mix of melancholy, relief, and anticipation of the future, quite well. Unlike many books recently released by former cyclists, Millar's is conspicuously absent a ghost writing credit or co-author. The book feels to, very much, be a work of his own. I look forward to his future books.

Fantastic, vibrant, convincing and upclose personal. David Millar is a true and honest human being and passionate about cycling. A winner of a book on the same level as his amazing "Riding through the dark" book.

Great read, if you’re a cyclist must read

Liked if because I ridw..but tedious to read

The book arrived very quickly and in great condition. It's a very personal look at one man's career in pro cycling. Great Gift for any cycling enthusiast.

A really captivating book, so well written and easy to read. Definitely could imagine how it really is inside a cycle race peloton.
