A pop-up book with snippets of Shakespeare's works -- many are summarized down to a paragraph..or two. It is a combination of pop-up scene, some "flip and fold" and foldouts with nice illustrations. Quick, fun read for young, curious readers -- possibly a good intro-to-Shakespeare book :)It wasn't exactly what I expected, but it is a nice looking book.

My 10 year old has been asking to learn about Shakespeare so i ordered this book. Her excitement about the book has matched my own. It is a pop-up book, but the exciting thing is there are popups within popups. We look forward to all the hidden treasures within. Sadly though the book came damaged at the binding. So I am returning this copy and Amazon is replacing it.

Very fun book that reminds me of why it's good to brush up on the Bard. Not just for children, in fact, more of an adult's pop up. Would be a great gift.

It went BEYOND my expectations. My young recipients are thrilled!!!

Just love pop-up books and this is too cool for school! Plan to buy one for my 8-yr-old granddaughter too. (She can't have mine.)

It isn't extensive in the story telling but a wonderful introduction with enough information to pique interest in reading the original.

Just a lot of fun and a quick overview of Shakespeare's work - a nice Shakespeare "starter" piece : )

I read this book because as an American, who collects cookbooks and is a self-described foodie, I felt that my knowledge and background on spices was sorely lacking. And now having completed the book it is quite apparent how much it was lacking.I found her approach to each spice interesting and I sincerely appreciated the recipes that catered to each discussed spice at the end of the chapters. My only wish is that she included some sketch or diagram at the beginning of each chapter illustrating the spice that would be discussed. There are so many spices I have not used or heard of, and I would have appreciated seeing what some of them looked like without having to leave the book to go Google what it looked like.But aside from all that, I found this an easy and interesting book to read and can confidently say my view of spices is much more well rounded because of this book.

Simmons is one of America's best writers, not just sf writers. This novel(and the sequels that followed)are as sophisticated and complex as anything by Pynchon or Joyce but incorporate a more commerical narrative structure. The first two novels in this "series"(I use the term loosely because of the time frame the series covers)are among the best fiction produced in the past 20 years. Simmons, along with his more unconventional contemporary Stephenson, is among the best authors currently writing.The ideas, situations and characters are all sophisticated and have considerable depth. It's clear that Simmons is trying to structure a narrative with a thematic structure comparable to the fiction of a Homer or Joyce(two authors at other ends of the spectrum).I can highly recommend this book. Give it a chance and you'll be sucked into its world. Easily the most comprehensive world created since Herbert's DUNE series.

I want to go back to school and learn all about the brain, then collaborate with chemists and microbiologists and neurobiologists and whoever else is around, to find a way to go in and bleach the memory of this book from my brain. In doing so I can then reread this book as if it were the first time. That's how much I like this book. There's your review. I said good day.

One of my all time favorite series. Full of great characters, amazing settings, fabulous story lines, and if you read the whole series of 4 books, you'll get into philosophy, religion, ethics, science, the future of mankind in several forms, and a story you won't be able to put down. I cry my eyes out every single time I read the last book, and I've read them all several times. I bought this book to replace one that I loaned out to someone who never gave it back. Goes to show why I don't like to loan my books out. These are incredibly well written, deep and thoughtful, and you will love these books. Almost impossible to describe with any shade of accuracy. I can tell you what it's about and it's like saying the ocean is big. You know what big is, but until you see it, you have no idea what I'm talking about.Read this, and then the others. You won't regret it.

I think this is the best sci-fi I've read since Frank Herbert's Dune trilogy. Imagine reading something as great as the movie Matrix written by someone who knows Keats, Shakespeare, Pound etc. I'm no technology buff, so I struggled to understand the world these characters inhabited - but it was so worth the effort. The characters are not as accessible as Frank Herbert's - they are complex, disillusioned souls struggling toward an unknown but fascinating and compelling goal. I'm going to keep this review mercifully brief, as I've just bought the second book, but will close with the existential problems books like this pose for me.I bought Hyperion impulsively because of its "brilliant, transcendent" etc reviews, which I happened upon looking for more Neal Stephenson. I came so close to missing it! How many more wonderful books am I missing? How will I know? Why do I live in the middle of nowhere? ahem.Buy this book if you love beautifully written sci-fi mystery.

A superb complement to the first and greater volume in the Hyperion series. Alone among science fiction novels, Hyperion and it sequel both address the complexities of the human spirit along with the consequences of Universal Artificial Intelligence. Nearly every other sci-fi writer is a lover of intellect and reason without examining what makes humans human. Mr. Simmons has the courage to investigate this ultimate conundrum, with outstanding results. A first rate novel in all respects - story, plot and characters, not to mention a lucid prose style that carries the story forward with pacing.

I don't know that Hyperion (book one of Simmons' Hyperion Cantos) has aged all that well. I'm sure when it came out, everyone found it clever--I certainly would've if I'd read it at the time. But with all the literary and cultural references, it feels a bit showy now. Maybe even dated.That said, Simmons' Canterbury Tales-esque structure works well, and the stories that each character tells on their pilgrimage are intriguing and often shocking. And you're certainly left wanting to read book two.The Fall of Hyperion, on the other hand, is moving, compelling, and thoughtful. It's as if Simmons took the entirety of the first book to set up the payoffs in the second. He's gotten all the cleverness one out of his system and settles down to do what he needs to do: let the characters' stories unfold. And they do so beautifully.I won't give away any spoilers. However, I'll say that the end is a little mind-blowing and very, very poignant.After all these years, the books have apparently been optioned for a miniseries. I'll be curious to see how they translate to the small screen.

Unbelievably dense, yet quite readable. I'd read "The Terror" by Simmons and was similarly blown away. "Hyperion" introduces Simmons' universe which is at least comparable to Herbert's (Dune), Brin's (The Uplift saga) or Scalzi's (Old Man's War). As other reviews state, the structure of the story is similar to the Canterbury Tales, but really this is a mystery novel. The pilgrims' tales reminded me a great deal of "Haunted," by Chuck Palahniuk: graphic, often bittersweet if not outright dark but there is a gallows humor that pops up. An engrossing and entertaining read. I will definitely try the next volume. (Sorry to be light on details but I'm trying to avoid any spoilers of any kind). If you like "Dune," "Game of Thrones," sci-fi, mysteries or medieval literature, check this out.

Best textbook I have ever read.I think I learned more in this class than all my higher Ed classes combined because Babbie offers hilarious little tidbits throughout what would be a normally dry subject.And if you want a great laugh read through the glossary ie. "deduction- (1) The logical model in which specific expectations of hypotheses are developed on the basis of general principles. (2) What the IRS said your good-for-nothing moocher of a brother in law technically isn't. (3) of a duck."Maybe I am a total nerd, but that is good humor.

I assign the most recent edition each year to my survey research class. I've reviewed lots of other books on the subject and never found one I like better for its completeness, practicality, and tone.

Excellent book. This is one of the best I've read if you want to gain a solid understanding of the foundations and breadth of social research.

Easy to read and understand. Not as dull as most textbooks. Book in perfect condition.

I consider this the bread and butter for anyone studying Sociology and learning how to collect data. This helped me with research for history classes as well. It is important to be able to know how to interpret and understand collections of data. Babbie helps you do that. If anyone thinks it is expensive, my university wanted $250 for it new. Just some insight on prices.

A little outdated in parts, but well written, in depth, and a great starter.

I'm going to keep this short, because if you're buying it, you probably need the book for some specific reason and don't care about the reviews.So, in short: this is one of the clearest, most concise, most readable textbooks I've used on any subject. The subject could be treated in a much more boring way, but Babbie keeps it interesting and relevant. Well done.

Interesting take on things. Not really special though.Liked how they did the homage to thanos in the helicopter, like his original first appearance

Infinity's End is here. This is the culmination of Gerry Duggan's work on the Cosmic Marvel Universe that started in Guardians of the Galaxy (2017). A close friend has betrayed the heroes of the Marvel Universe and assembled the Infinity Stones for their own ends. In a universe changed, the only one who can stand against this new threat is... Loki? I dare not say more in case I spoil any of this story that has to be read to be truly appreciated. I will warn you though, read every bit of dialogue and look over every panel carefully. This is a massive story and I personally ended up having to go back a few times because I missed important details the first time. This whole event is a loving throwback to the cosmic craziness of Jim Starlin's original Infinity Trilogy that started in Infinity Guantlet (1992). Duggan channels Starlin's style here without flat out copying it. A lot of the story's good comes from the build-up. From Guardians, to Infinity Countdown, to here has been an incredible ride using the best of both past and present Marvel Cosmic stories. It's not over either, as not only do we get a couple of extra one-shots in the collection meant to bookend the event, they tease what's next for Duggan. His upcoming Infinity Watch: Wolverine (2019) miniseries will continue his story of the Infinity Stones. In addition, the art on the book is some of Marvel's best. It's done by legendary Mike Deadato Jr. for the main event, a master of his field. His gritty yet realistic style really sets the tone. Beyond him Mark Bagley and Andy MacDonald do good on the additional content. As the end of a long saga I will say this doesn't really work as more has been confirmed inside to be coming. This makes me happy though, as I'm not ready for this story to end just yet.5/5
