Terminé de leer los cuatro libros y me gustaron. Tal vez este último es el que menos me atrapó. Mi opinión es que perfectamente podría haber sido un solo libro, no cuatro. Si bien es muy interesante y bien escrito, hay mucha repetición sobre todo acerca de los pensamientos y dudas constantes de quien relata. La amiga está muy lograda y es un gran personaje al cual te quedás muy enganchada. También la evolución de todos los demás, del barrio, el entorno y los cambios de Italia. Muy recomendable.

Que manera de escribir! Cuanta sabiduria compartida, cuantas emociones y sentimientos expuestos a traves de sus maravillosos personajes. Quiero mas de Elena Ferrante! Lo he recomendado a todas mis amigas pues todas tenemos un poco reflejado en estas paginas. Leanlo es lo mejor que pueden decidir!

Este último libro de las novelas napolitanas ha perdido el ritmo ingenuo y profundo de los tres anteriores. A veces parece un informe de situaciones y hechos que viven las dos amigas. Aunque sigue siendo interesante, la novela ha perdido fuerza e intimidad y su narración carece de la pasión y del análisis sicológico de los personajes.

Taylor was born a slave, gained her freedom early in the Civil War, and served as a nurse for the first black regiment of the Union Army. Her disappointing, fairly random recollections cover her flight to freedom in 1862, her regiment's expeditions along the Southeastern coast, the end of the war and, briefly, Reconstruction. The author does not demonstrate a capacity for observation and reflection or the descriptive skills necessary to bring her experiences to life for the reader. Of such a momentous occasion as the first time she heard the Emancipation Proclamation, her most significant comment is: "It was a glorious day for us all, and we enjoyed every minute of it." She also makes little mention of her personal life, including her two marriages and the death of a son. In her reflections on the condition of blacks in 1902, the year the memoirs were originally privately published, Taylor's writing is at its strongest and most vivid as she decries the betrayal of the freedom and equality blacks and whites had fought for in the Civil War. Included here are excellent, illuminating footnotes by Romero, a research fellow at Johns Hopkins University. There is nothing like hearing first hand what someone's life is like that would be impossible to relate to otherwise.Fascinating material.

great reading for the civil war era

A very interesting memoir.

I was first of all made aware that a WOMAN wrote her memoirs about the Civil War, To think that a BLACK WOMAN would write is so enlightening. During this time many where beaten for writing / or learning to write. An excellent view of that time.

An interesting, engrossing encounter with one of the many forgotten Civil War heroes, in this case a black female nurse.

I read this book because of another fact I learned about in another book, and it didn't disappoint.

As a Genealogy teacher and author, I found this book to be very useful.I am a Caucasian, New Englander. I have minimal bias about human colors.This book is very well written, and reading it flows very smoothly, even though my primary interest was in obtaining vital statistics data about the persons identified in this book. Although I am a well educated person, I had to refer to a dictionary on a few occassions, and learned a few new words! To me that is a plus for the author/editor of this book. This book peaked my curiosity to investigate more deeply into various experiences that were presented in this book.

Susie King Taylor was a woman when she wrote these memoirs in 1902, but a girl during the Civil War – just 14 when the Yankee army occupied the Sea Islands and she crossed their lines.She did a woman’s work, though. Officially a laundress, she was mostly a teacher and nurse for the soldiers of the First South Carolina Volunteers, the first formation of black soldiers raised by the Union. She married a sergeant, but we don’t learn much about him or, indeed, much of anything personal to her – not until the 1890s.These brief remembrances, self-published as “My Life in Camp with the 33d United States Colored Troops Late 1st S.C Volunteers” read more like a diary and were intended to perpetuate the story of the service of the black soldiers, to whom she remained devoted all her life. (Which ended in 1912, one of many facts we might have wished the editors to have included, but they didn’t.)It is not a specially good memoir but it is the only one we have from a black woman in the war. Nevertheless, we can learn a good deal from it.There are occasional glimpses of the girl, as when the soldiers hold a big barbecue, which is good but not as good as it would have been “at home” in Savannah.Susie Baker King Taylor was born a slave but apparently was free in 1862. We are not told how that came about.We learn a little, but not much, about how she learned to read and write, an unusual accomplishment at the time. Because the soldiers – some escaped slaves, some free blacks; some volunteers, some pressed – wanted so much to learn to read, she was important in the camp.The most interesting parts of the book are not her wartime experiences, but her “Thoughts on Present Conditions” and her account of a mission to her dying son in Shreveport, Louisiana, in 1898.She had been living in Boston, where racial harmony was cherished by many, and she was shocked by what she found in the Jim Crow South. Her account is restrained but the anguish comes through.She was not allowed to take her boy home to die, because he was too sick to sit up in the railroad car but was not allowed to hire a berth.Her testament of faith that her country would eventually do the right thing was misplaced but makes for inspiring reading, if you’re into that sort of thing.

This is not a “nice” book to read. This is a MUST book to read. Not only does this book cover the topic of money and kids, but it covers every single topic of money you can think of (getting out of debt, how to save for college, how to get your credit score right and tight, how to tackle money and marriage/relationships, how to say no to family members/friends who keep asking you for money, etc). Seriously, you can’t get any more real about the money answers Patrice shares in this book than this.Patrice gives, real, honest and practical tips to winning at the money game. I’m determined to end the generational negligence on money in our family and it’s starting with how we raise our kids to understand how it works.

For this to be a book about winning the money game with or without a man, the Author only had a small section dedicated to women without men trying to get their finances in order. The rest of the book to me was geared towards couples and families. I think the Author provided a few gems but it was mostly common sense info sprinkled with the Author endorsing herself and the people she knows (she mentioned Steve Harvey more times than I can count).

This book is the most thorough book I have every read on personal finance. I think it should be required reading since financial literacy is an area of lack for many of us. I realized I need to do a better job of staying on top of my bank statements, budgeting and financial planning for the future. The only reason this is four stars and not five is because in one part of the book where she is providing questions you should ask your romantic partner--she gave no context for when these questions should be asked. I don't think bringing up finances is even appropriate until you're an official item not in the early dating stages unless it is just something basic like career and lifestyle preference. Also, in another section of the book she is assuming women who are interested in men with financial stability are automatically gold diggers. I don't think it is fair to paint a brush over all women who prefer men of means. Many women are career women and simply want a guy on their level or higher. Some women want to be taken care of financially. Absolutely NOTHING wrong with that. No one should judge what someone chooses to do or not do. Even for family, she is advising you not help your family even if you have the means to do so...which I don't think was the right advice.

Love Patrice and her podcast. Wanted to get her book. So far, this is more of a therapy/self-help book in the frame of financial outlook. I have cried a couple times in the first few chapters. That being said, it feels like there is a good amount of fluff in this book as well. There are times when I think, “some of this is a waste of time.” This is common in the genre, but there are a select few books where I’ve thought, “jeez I need every word of this.”@ I look forward to seeing how Patrice grows as an author. I would definitely recommend this to anyone. If someone is open to really changing their mindset about money, I think this is a decent and friendly place to explore or start. Another thing I appreciate about it is that it is not just for people who came from wealth or just for people who came from poverty. It seems pretty useful for anyone.

With or Without a Man" is fine, but I had to make sure they understood I wasn't being passive aggressive about their relationship! just the opposite!This author took the FEAR out of learning to understand how to handle money and to feel good about making smart decisions and planing one's finances. It's rarely that I want to comment on a book unless it really touches me, let alone now I am at 71% of it. I couldn't help it. 1. I used to think maybe God doesn't have any plan for me for a partner because when I look around I do see some people single till they die. Then the author uses Bible scripture to help me understand God doesn't want us to be alone and that's why He created Eve for Adam, and that's why animals are in pairs. 2. It mentions the importance and gives multiple examples on how to discern the voice from God, enemy of God and our own desire, one most important way is via "CONSUL", asking 3rd party mature believers or someone we can trust to help us identify the voice. 3. Define the relationship before investing. Very practical method and prayers to say to God for help. 4. Further confirms that the partners must be a believer. I used to think it's alright, but after the recent breakup I realize I don't want a non-believer partner anymore. Thank you Susan!! This is a great book!!

This book is amazing. I just turned 55 and have never been married. The wait has been a Rollercoaster to say the least. This book has renewed my hope and given me encouragement to hang onto God's unchanging hand. As an author, I can definitely appreciate how simple yet powerful the words presented on these pages. This was definitely sent by God. A must read for every single woman who wants to marry. I feel blessed. Great job!

I was a little skeptical at the start of this book but I really feel like it was something I needed to read. I smiled and I cried. After coming from a broken engagement and going through the healing phase I knew it was time I let God take control of my love life and to prepare myself in the meantime to become a good wife to whoever he has planned for me. So if you're single, newly single, in a relationship or even married it's a great book to read!! I highly suggest it, it will bring new hope or rekindle that fire of hope in waiting for God to bring you the man or woman into your life. I honestly wish I didn't have an ending and just kept going but I will for sure be reading it again and again.

A great book that all men should read. Although written for women this will show what real men should be doing to be a good husband and worthy of God’s gift. If you are a man and are seeking a spiritual partner in your walk with Christ this is a great guide. Plan spoken based on scripture. Be prepared, if Christ is your first love you will weep for the joy that your Father has given to you. I’m divorced (a Christian that didn’t follow anything that the author recommends) and have been blessed by His forgiveness. I would encourage every man who seeks the blessings of God for a spiritual partner to read this.

Wow. Such an emotional roller coaster for me (a great one). I found this book accidentally and I am so glad I was able to purchase and read it. It was so insightful and really guides you through life. This can be applied to any relationship really. Trusting in the Lord first. Thank you so much for creating this for women like myself!

I loved this book, I read it in one night. This was the answer to a prayer that was in my heart. It helped me to see clearly how gracious GOD is when prompting us to follow his lead on relationships. This book calmed my weary spirit...shortly after this read I met my love. Trusting in GOD. I would give this book 10 stars if it was an option.

I recommend this book to anyone desiring to move on from a past, especially wrong relationships and soul ties, and to live the life God has prepared for us, in the context of marriage and family.

Finally, what I was looking for. An easy and realistic vegan cookbook. This is useful for anyone who doesn't want to spend much time on food preparation. Everything can be done in the microwave, but, honestly, you can add steps to suit individual taste. I have a big collection of vegan cookbooks, but they mostly are not used because I don't want to spend a few hours a day buying ingredients, chopping, cooking and cleaning. I do it for guests and if I'm in the mood, but never for every day. This cookbook adds options for us minimalists who want to eat well but keep it simple.

The book itself is of good quality, but I did not like the recipes. Most of them are unappetizing and unhealthy, which I now realize that it was not advertising healthy recipes. I liked the idea of this book, but as a college student, I do not eat microwaved food every day and want to enjoy a healthy vegan lifestyle. I am a new vegan and this book did not help me with my transition, but it might help students who live in dorms with only a microwave for cooking.

I am a huge peta supporter and i love vegan recipes (and am in college.) but this is just a book about how to microwave things with pre made products. i cook from scratch and like to eat healthy so this book wasn't for me.

This is perfect for people who don't have time to cook, and throw everything in the microwave. It's very simple. It is aimed for college students who eat ramen noodles and are always on the go. My biggest disappointment was that it doesn't have any pictures inside, which makes it hard for me to page through and find something that looks yummy to me, when it's an endless blur of black text.Although the recipes have microwave directions, one could always make them on the stove instead.Btw, Fake meat sounds unhealthy when you use the word "fake" but really is not all that unhealthy. It's made from vegetables and plant based items not plastic. It's a replacement made from healthier things not a plastic ham. It has less cholesterol and doesn't contain hormones. Hot dogs made from meat are what I'd really be worried about, do you know how that is made?If you don't mind cooking, I'd recommend "Oh she glows cookbook", it has beautiful pictures for every recipe, and are all Vegan. Look it up on Amazon.

I am well-beyond the normal college-age. I also own a stove.This book helped me a lot in the early years of wanting to experiment with vegan food. Years later (and more experienced at cooking/baking). I STILL grab this book for those days I'm in a hurry, lazy, etc. and just want a quick meal and I'm blank on what to eat!Tip: For those who may have food allergies or sensitivities, you can be flexible and sub most things in this book: For instance: For those avoiding soy: Just use coconut milk (or other alt milk of choice), use a rice-based, almond-based, or coconut milk-based yogurt, in appropriate recipes that call for tofu or sour cream or cream cheese, or if you can eat nuts: use cashews or other nuts for certain soy-based sauces, cheeses. For vegan cheeses, use gluten and soy-free daiya cheese shreds or wedges.For gluten free: Use gf breads, gf flours, instead of oats, use quinoa (flakes or regular). (Example for the Knock-Oats, I use quinoa flakes vs oatmeal, and a soy-free peanut butter (Santa Cruz brand). For refined sugar-free: Use agave, maple syrup or coconut sugar.You can also make these recipes on a hotplate, stove/oven or toaster oven vs microwave if desired. Take this book with you when travelling, too! VERY handy! Also great as an emergency/disaster book, imo.I hope that they come up with an updated version of this book, soon what with the updated vegan products and tips for those with the ever-increasing food sensitivities and allergies.

I’m not a cooking master by any means. Can’t do much besides cooking boxed macaroni and cheese, so trying to be vegan in college (while my school serves no vegan food) was a struggle. This book came fast and gave me so many easy and tasty ideas. I just made a nacho recipe from the book today and it was filling and delicious! And all of the recipes that require cooking use the microwave, which is great if your hall doesn’t have a stovetop or oven. I’ve marked a lot of recipes that look good and after the nachos, I’m excited to try more of them!

The recipes all seem yummy, simple, and affordable which is exactly what I was looking for. It also includes special sections just for certain ingredients such as peanut butter and ramen. The part that I can't stand, however, is that every recipe also has some stupid college-stereotype-related joke. The jokes had me cringing, and eventually I stopped previewing the recipes because I was so annoyed. I'm sure this book will be very useful, but it could have seriously done without the corny studying/flirting/partying jokes. It seems more like it was written by someone trying to be funny to college students rather than someone who could actually relate to them.

It's awesome very simple recipes an taste is amazing. You don't have to follow the exact way of cooking such as boil instead of microwave.
