For what you get, this IS a good book. However, there are a few things about it that I think detract just enough to only give the book 4/5.1. The caves are all North American - no mention of the rest of the world. That said, the caves featured are abot the best in North America.2. The other articles on cave geology and biology are good, but there are better ones. If you really want to know more, Cave Geology by Arthur Palmer and The Biology of Caves and Other Subterranean Habitats (Biology of Habitats) by David Culver are the ones to get.So yes, this is a great "coffee table" book with some good generalist info. Though I think that the old Time Life book Underground Worlds (Planet Earth) is better all round, even if the photos aren't as good as this new one.Well worth having if you get a good deal on the price, bt it's not the absolute best general book on caves around.

I purchased this book sight unseen and for one reason - it was written by Michael Ray Taylor (I'd read bathroom cleaner cans if he wrote the text for them). When I opened the box, I was stunned to find a coffee-table type book filled with incredibly beautiful photographs and great text. _Caves: Exploring Hidden Realms_ is a (stand alone, IMO) companion to the IMAX film of the same name; Kerbo's pictures are mind-blowing and the text is classic Taylor - accessible, entertaining, educational and just downright fun.As an added treat, the microbiology angle of _Dark Life_ finds its way into _Caves: Exploring Hidden Realms_ as well. A bit of the text was taken from _Cave Passages_ but a very small bit and this didn't diminish my enjoyment. I can't say enough positive things about this book. Buy it!

I used this book, and the related IMAX video, as part of a cave biology experience for undergraduate biology majors this year. Both the book and the video are fantastic; I challenge anyone to consider biology boring after reading/viewing them. To prepare for a spring break "wild cave tour," our students read Taylor's book, watched the video, then had a presentation on caving by Taylor. He also accompanied us on the caving trip. (It doesn't hurt that both of us teach at the same university....) The students loved it all. They asked for, and received, permission to sample for microbes in the cave, and have grown up their bugs. We don't expect to find anything earthshaking, as human contamination even in lightly used caves is apparently ubiquitous, but this really got students excited. I enthusiastically recommend the book and the video combined, and following it up even with a trip to a developed cave would be a great experience for students.

Initially, I bought this book merely to be supportive of DeVON Franklin. I celebrate the integrity of his persona; I also respect the quality and morality of his work in entertainment. While I realize no one's a saint and no one's achieved perfection, I'm always fascinated when a person is brave enough to be true to a higher standard even when they may work in an industry that readily rewards other behavior. BUT - OH GOODNESS THE BOOK IS SURPRISINGLY GOOD! Please forgive me for failing to even consider that I ACTUALLY NEEDED TO READ THE BOOK. (type out the embarrassed🙈emoji here). The book is so transparent, complete with first-hand testimony and revelation. I learned things about the male mind that changed my approach to certain things. I'm also elated to witness the emergence of men like DeVON that are "alpha" enough to face correction and accountability. He shares critical advice about gender and relationships, and he makes me feel that there's no longer any need for the BATTLE OF THE SEXES. This book gives excellent insight for both men and women. For men, I imagine it’s good to hear that you aren’t struggling alone and there is hope with practical steps on being a better man. For women, it’s helpful to know how men are struggling and what can be done to help. Also for women it’s good to see the pitfalls to avoid as to not get stuck in a relationship that’s not good.I really like this book because Devon is honest with what he’s saying but he’s also being a Christian man about it!

This book completely changed how I view men. So eye opening and real. I have learned so much and I am only half way through the book. I can see this will be a go to book often when I am struggling with behaviors from my husband that make zero sense to me! Thank you Devon your candor was so enlightening.

I have unfortunately personally experienced much of what DeVon Franklin writes about in this excellent primer on dealing with men when they exhibit behaviors that are out of control. Reading his brilliant and compassionate insight into the minds of these types of men gave me a new sense of freedom and comfort. He was able to explain much of the why some men behave so wrecklessly and how it most often has little to do with the women in their lives. He also gives much practical good advice to make life better for all involved. Fantastic book on the subject!!

I’m very supportive of Devon Franklin and would have only done myself a disservice to have not invested my time to reading another great book written by him. The Truth About Men is so transparent and gives you so much insight. DeVon is merely releasing a movement that is so contagious and positive, how could you not connect yourself to a higher vibration of self realization and improvement. Having been through the chasm I have grown to appreciate it's sound advice. What is necessary to achieve early product success is very different from enduring , mainstream success. This is my second time through this canonical tech marketing book. The book explains the keys to bringing new tech to market. In particular, the ideas of narrowing to a nitche and assembling a whole product when crossing the chasm. This helps mainstream customers buy as they see a product as a market leader. This is when a category transitions from a product-focused sale to techies and visionaries, to a market-drive sale to more pragmatic and risk adverse customers.

This book offers a true blueprint for companies looking to market and sell innovative high-tech products in a mainstream market.This blue print begins by segmenting customers into groups with different needs and goals (innovators, early adopters, early majority, late majority and laggards). These groups do not form a continuous spectrum. Indeed, there are gaps that exist that any company looking to succeed needs to understand and bridge. Once the company identifies the highly specific target segment within a mainstream marketplace, they then proceed to understanding their compelling reasons to buy. Then they must build around the notion of a "whole product" with the aid of partners as required to make that a reality. To further help the customer, the company must clearly define their competition and how they position themselves with respect to them. Finally comes selecting a distribution channel and ensuring that the sales force is empowered to deliver the required results.From my perspective, this book helps any IT executive understand how to better work with technology vendors. In addition to helping them identify the ones that are indeed there to stay and grow. It also pushes IT executives to make fundamental decisions on where in the consumer spectrum they want to position themselves based on their needs and the risks that they are willing to undertake.In all a very good and informative read. Despite it being originally written in the 90s the fundamentals of the blueprint still hold true. This is a true bible in the field of technology marketing. On the critiquing side, I would say that this book could have been written in a more concise fashion. It seemed slow at times, when reading it. Also, it would have been great to see updated examples of the principles described which would make it easier to reflect upon from a more recent perspective.

There are a number of great insights in this book, especially for engineers who are beginning to climb up out of their heavy technical world and want to have true and serious impact on the real world. I was a bit disappointed to see that the transformation to the online version appears to have at least one recurring defect. It looks like some symbol used in lists in the paper book does not translate properly into a symbol in the on-line version. What we see on the Kindle Reader on the iPad are lines starting with "535." It would be nice if there were someway to point out these defects to someone with an expectation of this copy automatically get updated at some point in time.Even with this annoyance, which caused me to downgrade the book by one star, the book is very readable and useful. I was also a bit surprised to see that the Kindle version of the book is slightly more expensive than the paper version, which makes no sense to me at all!
