Following the events of Brightest Day, the Green Lanterns are attacked by a weapon smith from Qward, the anti-matter homeworld that served as Sinestro's base of operations during the Sinestro Corps War. The titular Weaponer is the man who helped Sinestro forge his yellow rings and is now gunning for the rogue Lantern in the name of revenge. The battle between the Weaponer and Sinestro is decent overall, but the book's value comes mostly from the relationship drama between Sinestro, his daughter, and Kyle Rayner. Despite his tolerance of Hal, Sinestro has always hated Rayner and it drives him nuts that his daughter is dating the Earthling. The fight scene between the two is great and the book's exploration of Sinestro's complicated feelings for his family is terrific.

Tony Bedard continues his worthy run on Green Lantern Corps in his second story arc before the War of the Green Lanterns. This story takes place around the Weaponer, the Qwardian who forged Sinestro's yellow ring back when he was first exiled out of the Green Lantern Corps. The Weaponer is furious with Sinestro because Sinestro never fulfilled any of his promises made in exchange for the ring and then returned and enslaved the Qwardians to create his own Corps. The Weaponer captures Sinestro's daughter, Green Lantern, Sornik Natu, to lure Sinestro to Qward.This story runs at an exciting pace but near the end it breaks down into too much action and is one long overdone battle scene. Also, in the last chapter, there is a guest appearance by one of Brightest Day's stars that detracts from the main story and just adds an unnecessary appearance to an already overcrowded roster. The main conflict runs between The Weaponer, Sinestro, Sornik Natu, and Kyle Rayner and they all are used well. The art is decent. A little sloppy with figures in the distance.All in all, a nice addition to the Green Lantern Corps saga. Not bad but not great.

But a disappointing ending. The Weaponry was a cool character, and Sinestro was AWESOME and the whole.point of this story was to set up War of the Green Lanterns. The ending was unexpected and the flip to heel kind of caught me off guard. Definitely check this one out though!

Great Brightest Day tie-in and im sure would make for a good stand alone book too.The Weaponer is an interesting character...and it features the Green Lantern Corps and Sinestro Corps.The only complaint I could make is that Kyle Rayner isnt really featured that much.

This is an engaging story. Great artwork. This is all building up to the War of the Green Lanterns story arc. As Far as the Brightest Day tie-in, it's not that strong and I liked that fact. This stands on its own and we get to further see development between Kyle Rayner and his love interest Soranik Natu. If you haven't read this yet do yourself a favor and read it.

While this story directly follows some of the highest points in the Green Lantern Corps series, I do have to say that the follow-up to Blackest Night: Green Lantern Corps is wanting at best. The drama between the characters seems deserved and appropriate, but most of the actions and reasonings behind them seem forced or out of necessity instead of the intensity of the moment and to further the characters. There were great moments within the book, but it seemed that the build up of the book were for those moments, and not for the complete story.

This is another great book in a great series! If you're reading the series then you already know that, and duh, buy this one. If you're not reading the series, pick up Green lantern Corps:Recharge, and get started.

As the title for this review says, it is a really good story the only problem was that Sinestro was given too much story and not enough story time was given to the other characters.

Can't wait to have an actual luau!

We made almost all the stuff in this book and love it. We made a weekend Laau and had over 35 guest and they loved it. It went over so well that they have asked us to do another one. We even made the pig, we love this book, even my kids love the food.

What a great book!Unlike a previous reviewer, I read all about this book before I bought it, and knew what I was getting. And I love it.Full of fun party ideas and MEALS. Ok, recipes which can be turned into meals. Ingredients are accessible, and fairly easy to make. We're planning a luau for the summer, and this book will be our guide!

I'll probably never make any of the recipes nor use any of the party ideas but it was still a fun read.

The premise of Retro Luau is appealing: here's recipes and other information for putting togeher a luau, with the spirit of the old, simpler days. Aha, I thought: I've wanted a collection of Polynesian recipes, and this one is pretty darned inexpensive.Alas, I'm disappointed in what the book delivers. I had expected it to be a hoot, especially since I was initially recommended the book because I'd purchased and enjoyed The Gallery Of Regrettable Food. Instead, Retro Luau really does feel like a 1950s cookbook (with "retro" illustrations to match), with recipes including macadamia cheese puffs, upside-down pineapple cake, and teriyaki beef skewers.None of the recipes are *bad*, mind you (though they're heavy on mayonnaise in a 1950s sort of way). The next time I need to take a covered dish to a buffet party I'm sure I'll look through Retro Luau for inspiration, if not bring along the sweet-and-sour meatball recipe. If you want food like Mom used to make, and don't want to expend a lot of effort, this may be a good choice for you.But you should be aware that this is definitely a cookbook for creating a luau, complete with instructions for roasting a whole pig and how to make a lei. It is emphatically not a collection of Polynesian recipes that you might whip out for a different Sunday dinner. The book description says this, of course, but I hadn't expected nearly everything to be finger-food and munchies to serve 8-10 at a minimum. (Happy Ham Salad serves 20-25 people.)I may pull out this cookbook occasionally (especially since a close friend has a yearly luau-inspired party), but I don't expect any of its pages to get dog-earred.

Lent has always been a fascinating and frustrating season of spiritual growth for me. Damiani makes Lent plain for regular folks to enter in, while keeping it strange for those of us that need to be confronted with an alternative rhythm of repentance and preparation. He's also a really incredible writer, so this was an easy and super enjoyable read. This is a great companion for the Lenten season, I'd recommend it to anyone who wants to pursue an uncluttered and more deeply rooted spiritual life!

I don't have enough good words about this book. As someone who lives in the netherworld of loving and cherishing Catholicism and the heritage it gives me and loving and cherishing the Reformation and Reformed theology, this was a book I hardly knew I wanted so much. It helps me to respond to the questions I get about Lent from other protestants and those who speak harshly towards tradition as being contrary to "Mere Christianity" even as it has helped me to prepare my heart to respond to the invitation of Lent. Aaron gives an historical, theological, and practical case for why Lent is Good Medicine--not a mandate of works righteousness, not a lure away from Mere Christianity, but a gift to anyone who desires to participate in prayer, fasting, and generosity in a more structured and communal way on the path of discipleship.Loved this so much. I'm sure I'll return to it in future years to prepare for the Lenten season, but it was especially providential to read it this week before Lent.

My husband and I read this book in time for Lent this past spring after hearing the author on the Phil Vischer podcast. We dipped our toes into the Lent experience this year and plan to make it a deeper, more meaningful tradition with our children next year. We currently attend a church that doesn't really do anything with Lent (Baptist...) and Easter was much more meaningful this year with our hearts more prepared. The author provides a history of Lent, several reasons to recognize Lent, and a variety of different ways to tailor it to your personal or family's spiritual needs.

The Good of Giving Up is written in a conversational, easily-accessible style; but it is not simplistic. The book is written with theological rigor and depth, but I also appreciated the practical section for pastors and laypeople at the end.Overall, I think this book is great for both skeptics and Lent-subscribers. For the skeptics, it will help you at least familiarize yourself with what you view with suspicion--and may even convert you. For the subscribers, it can offer up the chance to engage with aspects of Lent you may have neglected in the past, such as acts of charity.

Fr. Aaron gets to the gut level reality of why many of us as evangelicals resist the season of Lent. He brings his own relevant (and humble) experience to bear, showing how God used the disciplines and rhythms of Lent (anticipating Easter) as life giving and not at all legalistic. It's an easy read in once sense, but if one approaches it with an open and willing heart one is likely to find to very challenging.

If you want a "how to" book this is good. I was looking more fore an insightful book, and it is not that. I think it was meant to convince and instruct, rather than to inspire.

This is an excellent book to prepare your heard and spirit for Lent. It reads easy and use helped me think about Lent (as a Protestant) in a new, refreshing way.

This book is a tremendous, helpful, balanced approach to Lent and the helpfulness of Lent to deepen our Christian faith. I appreciated the historicity presented, the encouragement to dig deep while being careful of the “whys” and the very practical guidance given throughout this book.

About the Author

Paul McClean grew up in Ireland where he attended the Dublin Institute of Technology, graduating with honors in architecture in 1994. a really nice little book, but not intended for beginner

Great book by great authors. I spent a lot of time learning Fortran and I prefer to have tangible books.

For the experienced FORTRAN 77 programmer, this is the best book you can own for learning FORTRAN 90/95. Don't be fooled by its unimpressive size, the content is what's important and the only metaphor I can find is this: the contents of this little jewel are like concentrated acid. I'm not at all surprised the authors of Numerical Recipes in FORTRAN 95 site this book as their favorite reference. This book is not for the faint at heart, but then, what successful programmer is? This rare jewel combined with Adams, Brainard, Martin, Smith, and Wagener's "FORTRAN 95 Handbook" is all the aspiring FOTRAN 90/95 programmer needs.One example of the many gold nuggets I found in this title that I could find mentioned almost nowhere else: Instead of declaring a function as EXTERNAL so that it may be used as an actual argument in a procedure reference, Metcalf and Reid recommend using an interface block in the scope of the procedure reference using the actual function name, and a similar interface block in the referenced procedure (using the dummy argument procedure name), thereby allowing the compiler to envoke all the checking associated with explicit interfaces. Using the EXTERNAL attribute for this scenario does not allow that depth of checking, and, indeed, Chapman makes it seem as if the EXTERNAL statement is required to pass a function name as an actual argument. Adam's et al write that the use of interface blocks makes this use of EXTERNAL effectively obsolescent (p 473).I did have one problem with my edition of "FORTRAN 90/95 Explained", the index was bound incorrectly (the pages were out of sequence).

In my opinion this book gives a thorough, yet concise account of the Fortran 90 programming language and its more recent Fortran 95 revision. Its virtue lies in its unambiguous definition of terms, programming constructs, function definitions etc. It is ideal for the experienced programmer who wants to know how to code a specific task in Fortran 90. It is most definitely not suitable, nor aimed at either the novice programmer or the programmer of the Fortran 66 era; both of whom need a slower, more example and algorithm driven, introduction to the Fortran of the 90's.I have successfully used this book for teaching, but only to experienced Fortran 77 programmers eager to learn about the new language, and with the aid of highly structured lectures and supervised computer tutorial sessions. I would not recommend it for student self study.As an experienced programmer, what I most like about this book is that I can look up a term in the index, be referred to a small number of entries in the text, and rest assured that in those few pages I have all the information I require on that topic. Other Fortran books I have read frequently do not document, or pay scant regard to, important features of the language such as optional arguments to I/O statements or generic function disambiguation.If I were only allowed to keep just one Fortran 90 text book this would be the one.

There are two types of essential books to be on your bookshelves. Books to learn from and books to reference.This book is the essential reference. Once you learn Fortran, this is the book to turn to when you need to know the details of the language.I find myself using this book over and over again for my research project. It's short, concise, absolutely accurate and complete, making it the perfect book to have right next to your keyboard.In response to the 1 star review, this is _not_ the book to learn the language from if you know nothing about Fortran, but it would be a serious mistake not to stock your bookshelf with this gem of a book.

If you are new to Fortran and learn by doing, this is not the book for you. It is difficult to find explainations in one location. For example, when writing out a variable to the screen, you may want spaces put into the output. Where do you find the "coding" for spaces? Well, it's hidden very well in an example 20 pages later from the original text on the "write" statement. Also, I am currently writing code and need to use the 'call' statement. Unfortunately, something as useful as the call statement is hard to find in this book. I have had a difficult time using this book as a reference without having to spend a lot of time going through the whole chapter to find the information I needed. Maybe it just needs to be organized differently.I learn by looking at other people's coding and interpreting and investigating. This book does not lend itself very well to that type of method. Maybe it works for pure programmers, but I am an engineer and need results quickly. I hope this review helps you.

Fortran 90/95 explained by Metcalf and Reid is a reference work that covers systematically all the fundamental concepts in the Fortran 90 and 95 programming language standard. The text is concise, yet it is sprinkled with examples. I consult the book often and usually find quickly what I am looking for.

I bought this book because it was much cheaper than the other titles. Unfortunatly I got what I paid for. It just briefly mentions new features, and if you don't already understand them, you are lost.

It is not often that I believe characters can sustain their happily ever after but this is an exception to the rule.This book is for readers like me who are usually annoyed and oftentimes bored with the standard paranormal romance storyline clichés. I thought I knew how this story would go: beautiful human forced to marry hideous beast, he treats her poorly because he was also forced into marriage. She doesn't want to find him attractive but somehow they have amazing sexual chemistry. In the last chapter they realize they love each other. The end.Nope. If that is what you want, don't buy this book. If you are looking for a humorous and heartwarming tale of two individuals who learn to first like, then respect, then love, then desire each other, then this is what you are looking for. Draven puts equal efforts into world building and character building with the result that I found myself invested in both. I enjoyed this tale tremendously and know that it will be read again and again by me.Radiance is the tale of two "spare" nobles that are forced to marry each other to seal an alliance between their kingdoms. Their physical appearances are very dissimilar and even disgust each other because of the pronounced differences. Their respective peoples pity them for having made such unfortunate matches. Oddly enough the characters themselves never indulge in bigotry or pity, either for themselves or their spouse, they accept each other and adapt. The new couple must deal with issues of cultural disparity, political machinations and the prospect of war with a kingdom unhappy with their alliance. Through it all these characters shine.

I just finished Radiance last night after devouring the thing for three evenings, and I loved this book. It is well written, decently edited, and difficult to put down. I read solely fiction, mostly fantasy and romance, and this story has both—but done in such a way as it spits in the eye of worn-out tropes and grabs the reader’s attention right away.I will not ruin the story by summarizing it here to explain why I adore it so much. You want to know why, read the blurb. Or read the sample. But if you take it that far, beware: you'll end up buying the book.The premise of this story is great. The dialogue and interactions are meaningful and interesting. The male and female leads, endearing and witty. The best part about their coming together was that one was not tasked with winning over the other. The main characters were equal in that measure, putting a unique twist on the typical romantic cliche’s.Although I am a fan of the “no, no, no struggle” that takes 3/4 of the story before the “yes, yes, yes of acquiescence” (I mean who could read romance without being able to stomach that), this different take was so refreshing and fulfilling. It really took me by surprise.The only bad thing I can say about this book is that the names (or at least their spellings) were too hard to pronounce properly in my head, so I found myself saying them wrong just so I wasn't pulled out of the wonderful story every time I saw someone’s name.That being said, I was hooked after the sample and didn't think twice about buying the book. And the next in the series.Darn you author for penning such a compelling tale and taking my money! *raises fist to the sky in mock agitation*Truly fantastic read.

Wow, just W.O.W.Brishen, bada55, sensitive, hideous according to Ildiko, strong, a prince, a fighter.Ildiko, funny, sweet, strong, hideous according to Brishen, a fighter in her own way.The world, even though it was a different world, i didn't miss any detail about it, the author managed to introduce me into a world of magic, different species and it wasn't overwhelming and i didn't need to go back to understand some remarks, it flowed flawlessly. Loved every character, the main ones, the second ones, the third ones and all in between. A TRUE beauty and beast novel, though, we don't know who was the beauty and who was the beast.Their relationship was so sweet, so endearing, it wasn't insta-love, or insta-lust, they saw what they really were, because they didn't care about looks, so they focused on their souls and it was beautiful to watch and read and imagine such a relationship for me.
