I truly enjoyed this book. The recipes are great, creative and taste great. This was a great investment. There's no laundry list of ingredients in preparing these meals. It's my kind of cookbook. I will buy more books by this author. She even gives you calories, fat, protein, carbs for every meal. She takes the guess work out of cooking.

This book contains a lot of healthy, nutritious and yummy recipes, my husband loves to eat healthy food he always ask me to make some new healthy food for breakfast then I found this book and I immediately downloaded it, I will add this ketogenic recipes for breakfast and brunch to my healthy and nutritious food list, I’ll try all the recipes I’m sure my husband will be surprised when I cooked this new ketogenic breakfast and brunch recipes. All this recipes are quick and easy to prepare, I loved it thanks to the author.

Excellent historical romance, very well written and a definite page turner. As usual with this author.

*I received an ARC from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review*I was initially drawn this book because I'm a lover of ancient history, and I wanted to know more about this period in ancient Greece. I received this book back in November, but I found it hard to get into. I set it aside, especially as the busy holiday season came around, not sure if I would finish it. But I went back to it, pushed through the first few chapters, and around 35%, I found myself drawn in to the story of Philip and his character and quickly finished it from there. While most people only know his son, Philip of Macedon was instrumental in Greek history. His battle strategies revolutionized war. He united the Greek city-states before pushing beyond those borders, a mantle that Alexander the Great took up.This book covers Philip’s life from his birth to his victory over the Illyrians, which cemented his place as a strong leader and a general to be feared. I felt like the writing was a mix between a novel and a history book, which perhaps is why it took me awhile to get into it. The author vividly brought ancient Greece to life: the religion, the culture, the food, the politics. Battle strategies and formations were discussed in detail, and while I couldn't quite picture the specifics, it was enough for me to understand the significance of how those tactics ensured victory.Guild focuses on the character and personality of Philip, and how Philip never aspired to be king, but rather strove to support his two elder brothers in their kingship. Indeed, it supports the idea that those best suited for power are those who don't necessarily want it. The author also delves into the other characters that lived alongside Philip: his brothers, his enemies, and other significant people along his path in life who taught him the essential skills he would need one day to unite his people and be a king. While I don't know how much is based on historical fact or is pure speculation, the characters came alive in the pages of the book and it was easy to see them as true living, breathing people, rather than just names in a history book.Overall, not a book I think I would have picked up on my own, but ended up being a pleasant surprise. I enjoyed the intimate look into the life and character of one of history's more influential men. I would recommend for lovers of ancient history!

What were the conditions already in place when he became king of Macedon? How was such a young man able to completely dominate the known world? The answer is Philip.Nicholas Guild brought life to the dire situation that Philip inherited as king of Macedon; a small, weak kingdom on the edge of the civilized Greek world. Macedon was hedged in on all sides with a routed army. Guild painted a vivid picture of Philip’s early life as a young man who never expected to be king, he was a good brother who just wanted to do anything he could to do his part to help his older brothers.How much of the story is fact, myth, fiction? It really doesn’t matter to me, it was about the journey. Guild patiently took his readers through Philip’s early life. He brought to life a figure who is often overlooked by history due to having been eclipsed by his son. Guild shows him to be a man of eminent importance, who established the perfect scenario that allowed Alexander to be “The Great.”I would have liked to have seen more, but I suppose once Alexander was brought in as a young man, the story would then be all about him. Philip, again, would be lost in the background.*I received a copy of the book from the publisher (via NetGalley).

The Macedonian referred to in the title is Philip of Macedonia who was the father of Alexander the Great conqueror of the known world during the period he lived. Philip was the third son in line for the throne of Macedonia and as a boy he comported himself as an individual who would never inherit his father's kingdom. This was not the case as he eventually became the ruler of the country through circumstances that are explained by the author. Nicolas Guild has written a novel based on happenings in ancient Greece and set it up as a very interesting book loosely based on the available history of the period. Philip did manage to conquer most of Greece utilizing methods of combat that were in advance of those used by his enemies. He is pictured as sparing of his men and concerned with the well being of both his fellow Macedonians and the people conquered during his campaigns. Nicolas Guild has written a great many novels set in ancient times and has the ability to bring the characters and events depicted to life using supposed conversations and events for the modern reader. This book is no exception and taking it as a novel causes it to become an all nighter for the reader. We find that, through Mr Guild's eyes, the reader finishes the book with the distinct feeling that he knows Philip and understands his motivations in facing the circumstances that arose in his life.

William Kent (1936-2005) was a renowned researcher in the field of data modeling. Author of Data and Reality, he wrote scores of papers and spoke at conferences worldwide, posing questions about database design and the management of information that remain unanswered today. I did my PhD in database in the early 80s. This book by W. Kent was around already and I heard about it but did not have a copy of it. Had I read the book, my research work would have been 10 times better. This current printing is the reprint of the original one. The author mentioned in the preface that he was asked to update the book but he didn't because he thought it was still up to date (and I absolutely agree).If you are in data modeling and database area, believe me, this is a must read. It is about the philosophy of data modeling and how data and reality are related. In my opinion, its content cannot be obsolete. It is technology independent. The concept of naming and identification alone is priceless for data modelers. I can't believe I have been working in the database area for more than 30 years without it.

This is an excellent introduction to the ambiguities that make designing a database difficult and some of the more philosophical aspects of designing databases. A lot of the historical detail is interesting for modern practitioners. I would strongly recommend trying to obtain an edition of this book other than the "third edition" which has been significantly modified by Steve Hoberman. I would recommend attempting to get hold of an older edition, like this one, while emailing Penguin asking them for a new edition of the original book.

This book does bring a sense of "reality" to data and data modeling. The author provides a fresh perspective on data and data modeling without being dogmatic about which way is the best way to represent data. He exposes some of the subtle but critical factors which everyone working with data needs.His exposure and description of relationships and how to address them was enlightening.

Really interesting conceptual look at data modeling and defining entities

Some very important considerations for data modeling. Clearly explained with lots of good examples. William Kent does an excellent job of delving into the philosophy but always pointing back to the need to keep things practical for your use case. This will change the way you think about data and how it is represented.

Very helpful in understanding issues related to representing reality in machine-readable form.

I found this book following a reference from a Martin Fowler book.It's been a while since I read it, very interesting discourse on modelling data.

A study group book. Good discussion but everyone pretty much agreed it was too vague and out of date.

I bought this for my 10-year-old daughter on the recommendation of her pediatrician who said it is good to provide books that address the development of girls and boys. However, after reading it, I am sending it back for a few reasons. I'll name two. Firstly, it ties development too closely to certain ages. It has a chart with stages of development that shows that girls who are 8 - 10 have not started developing. My daughter started developing when she was 8 and seeing this chart is likely to make her feel more uncomfortable about developing early. The text mentions that changes can happen earlier or later but the chart speaks loudly for itself. Secondly, the discussion of breast development, addressed to girls, indicates, "...breasts help you look pretty good. Boys and men like them a lot, and quite right too." I am confident that my daughter, who has no interest in boys at the moment, would be horrified to hear that boys like her breasts a lot. And my daughter's breasts are just that, her breasts - not objects to provide pleasure to the boys and men around her. And couldn't the male author have found a female physician to weigh in on menstruation instead of Dr. Earl Cooperman who advises girls to "accept the discomforts of menses (the period) as a small inconvenient fact of life"? I'd like my daughter to develop opinions about her body outside the influence of how boys and men think about it. So, I worry that this book is likely to create rather than alleviate anxiety in my daughter about her developing body. I also feel that, as indicated above, it sometimes provides an outdated male-centric perspective on the female body.

My advice is to always read everything before you give it to your children. This book might be ok for you, but I didn't like it. I teach biology, and thought this book was a little goofy. I was also pretty turned off when "...breasts help you look pretty good. Boys and men like them a lot, and quite right too." showed up in there. Really? I guess at this stage, I would personally lean toward basing kids' knowledge in a more scientific account of what's going on and let my son figure out on his own how he feels about breasts, and down the line, my daughter doesn't need a book that is supposed to be a valuable resource telling her that breasts are there to help her look pretty. I mean - shouldn't we focus on their actual purpose at some point? *ughI ended up giving something else to my son to read.

This was much more explicit in the pictures than I anticipated. I was told that it was appropriate for a 9yo girl, but I don't think so.

By far my favorite!!! I read their other famous book “Where Did I Come From” when I was a child and have been using it to teach our own children. I love the anatomically correct cartoon drawings of the little chubby people so it totally lightens the feel in the room when our child and I giggle together over the drawings, but the words are all still very true and straight to the point. EXCELLENT book that still works in today’s society just as well as it did in the 1970s!

A wonderful book and I'm so glad we bought it for our nine year old son. We did quite a bit of research to pick the best book for him and this seemed to be a perfect fit for what we wanted to discuss and our desired level of openness. We weren't dissapointed and our son has really been enjoying doing some reading and asking us questions. I was worried that it would be outdated but I think it's still a great book on the basics for his age level.

It can be tough to talk to your parents about the changes happening in your body. This book is AWESOME for helping a kid starting puberty understand what is happening to their body and that it is NORMAL. Highly recommend

Every child/tween/teen should have this book to read and, hopefully, talk about with a caring parent. My children had this book and it's companion for younger kids, and these copies were gifts to our grandchildren. I cannot recommend them highly enough. And they're delightfully illustrated, helping to lighten the birds and the bees discussion!

If you have a daughter, this is the book to buy and let your child grow without surprises. I highly recommend this book for parents who have daughters.

I read this book to my 3 year old. She loved it & it has been on request every night since. The story is very good, it’s well written & the illustrations are beautiful. So glad to see character representation that my daughter can relate to. Highly recommend this book for your little one.

This is a book gives our girls the identity that no matter what you are beautiful inside and out. The illustrations are absolutely stunning and well detailed.

This is such an adorable story. Even as an adult I could appreciate it because we all have that little kid inside who yearns to be beautiful and loved. I thought this would be a traditional fairy tale where a little princess finds a prince to validate her, but this has so much more meaning and relevance in our society. I don't want to spoil it so read it yourself and share with a special child in your life!

This is a great book for young children to get in touch with themselves and to see positive images of theirselves to to life in a real story book fashion. I love the storyline and the additional resource of this amazing coloring to assist uplifting positive images for our children!!!Definitely a must for every family and home that has a little Nefertiti or Ramses running around.
