Growing up I was a huge X-men nerd. My wife and I decided to decorate with a comic theme in a bar/game room we were building instead of sports or wine like everyone else we know were doing. After putting up numerous comic cover replica posters aroudn the room, I stumbled upon this Marvel Encyclopedia. Read a few reviews and HAD to have it. This book is great and detailed about every character I could think of. Some get a 5 or 6 page spread like Spider Man and most of the Avengers. The only thing that could be negative with this book are things like, The Avengers 2 villain (Thanos) is very unknown and doesn't have much of a back story. He only has a small snippet of information on 1/4 of a page. This is fine now, but after A2 becomes a hit Thanos will surely rise greatly in popularity. Oh, also I brought this book to work with me and was asked "How much did you pay for a book like that? around $80-100 I bet." Nope, says $40 on the inside cover and got it for $20 on Amazon with free Prime shipping.

This really is a great book, well made and it's huge. I haven't been able to find anyone missing in there and there are even separate details on individuals (many faces of The Hulk, for example) and even group affiliations. Some of the detail in the history of the heroes or villains read like a short story - excellently done.My one and only gripe about it is that I was hoping for more detail on the powers of the supers. They left this fairly generic, without a lot of detail or examples of how individuals used their powers in interesting ways. Fairly bland for a lot of them when deeper descriptions would have been more exciting to read about.Overall though I do recommend this book - it's very high quality and the level of detail in the character history sections are great!-D

I bought the book for a good friend of mine and he loves it. Also, since I'm a beginner learner in the Marvel world, this book is helping me a lot with the character info. It's very detailed, colorful, the pictures are very well illustrated and it's really interesting. We didn't want to put it down! I would definitely recommend this book to people like me, who want to learn more or people who love comics and just need a refresher.

This encyclopedia is massive, nicely bound and beautifully printed! It is packed with information about all the Marvel characters, including the less well know ones. The artwork is great, the data could be a little more thorough and consistent in how it is collected.

I bought this book for my 10 year old son, in the hopes of turning him into a hopeless comic book nerd like his old man. It should do the trick. This book has EVERYONE in it. Every single obscure, flash-in-the-pan character who ever rubbed elbows with Captain America or traded quips with Spider-Man is in this volume. The only drawback to this comprehensive compendium of colossal combantants (how's my Stan Lee impression?) is that the histories of major characters must be severely compressed for the sake of space. If you want the full story on figures like The Hulk or Iron Man, you'll have to go with a more specialized reference source, such as the Avengers Encyclopedia. I was also disappointed to find that my copy has a small tear on the dust jacket, but at 30% off of the cover price, I can't complain too much. The Marvel Ecyclopedia should provide hours of interesting reading, both for me and my son.

I bought this for my husband for his birthday. He's not a comic book nerd like I am, but he likes the movies so I thought this would get him up to speed. Overall it's a great book. Lots of colorful artwork. The amount of space dedicated to each character is in line with the character's importance or amount of time you've seen the character in the marvel universe. A small time character gets 1/4 a page. Someone like Wolverine gets 4-5 pages. It could be a little more background/story/summarization heavy & a little less artwork heavy though, which is why I took away a star.

I bought this for my son for his tenth birthday as he got interested in Comic Book superheroes. Wow. What an impressive amount of information in one book! Yes, it is a somewhat large book, but it has been read and reread so many times since he first opened it. His nine year old sister read it so much as well that we bought her the DC Comics EncyclopediaThe DC Comics Encyclopedia, Updated and Expanded Edition for her birthday. Now they know more about comic book superheroes than I do! The pages have great illustrations and loads of information on each of the characters. Some characters have multiple pages of information as well. Highly recommended. Great gift.

It's very informative for many purposes. I am visiting Latvia, but not for the purpose of the book. However, what it does, not in any travel guide, explain the real culture from the standpoint of an American visitor. I probably learned more from this book than most travel guides. It's an easy read and before you realize, it's finished.

There is no one better at giving a description of a place from a perspective of meeting women. I doubt that too many who read this will travel to Latvia, but I have no doubt that if they do they will be successful at meeting the local girls so long as they do what Roosh says.

All information about Latvia is wrong! Author have poor knowledge about Latvian culture. Before you write about an alien culture, need to know it more!

Fencing, in all honesty much like any sport nowadays, is both an art and a science. But it's the only sport that stresses it, which seems to make people talk about fencing more next to the fencing strip, rather than actually fence. The treatment of fencing offered in this book is highly superficial, lacking in actual technical and tactical insight needed in the modern (and no doubt classical) fencing world. It was a charm to read, but didn't contribute significantly to the study of fencing as a whole.

I'm new to fencing, and have joined an excellent school. This book has given me a lot of information on what I should expect from the teachers and how to proceed with this sport. I have a much clearer understanding on what constitutes a proper teaching program, and how to proceed. I bought about 6 books on fencing to guide my progress and this should be required reading. I learned a lot from this. Author really knows what he's talking about. I wish I could study with him.

This book didn't meet my personal needs. I am looking for a book that provides explanations about technique and the author's personal philosophy about the Sport. Instead, I found the book written as if by a fencing coach giving a general outline of what fencing is about. Maybe I expected more because the other ratings were so high.The books that better met my needs were Fencing: Steps to Success and Fencing and the Master. I hope On Fencing by Aldo Nadi will be good too.

The Art and Science of Fencing contains a fairly basic into and description of sport fencing, focusing on the French approach to foil. A full third of the book is dedicated to trying to sell the reader on fencing. In my opinion, if you have bought the book, you're already interested. The text was notably lacking in decent photos or illustrations. There are a couple of pages dedicated to praising the importance of drills and exercises, but there is very little actual description of suggested drills or exercises! On a side note, the author has a very narrow view of fencing, attributing that there was no "real" swordplay until the 16th century. This is admittedly a common bias in the field. However, it blatantly ignores the fechtschules that have documented evidence from the 1400's. The author is not working from experience or research, as describing non-rapier swords as "can openers" is highly inaccurate. Lastly, the author asserts that strength training has no place in a fencing training regime. I suggest that strength training has a place in any athletic endevor and that it is simply a matter of tailoring your program to match your sport. Overall an average introduction for beginning fencers.

It's fun and entertaining to watch Nick try to get to fencing, technique, etc., as he just can't resist "one more story." Even when he titles a chapter "technique," it begins... but before we get to that, here's a story and some history...The past reviews on this book are now out of date. There are plenty of good books (dozens) on all levels of fencing, and even some outstanding DVDs (LEARN FENCING - FOIL - A DVD Beginers Guide to the Olympic Sport of Sword Fighting) is an example, which also comes in a 3 DVD set for foil, epee and sabre. These ship from UK when ordered on Amazon, but the shipping is fast and vendor (Russel Swords) extremely high rated and reliable, and the series is awesome. Even the older (2002) Elaine Cheris book (Fencing: Steps to Success (Steps to Success Activity Series)) is inexpensive, filled with great illustrations, and covers a wealth of detailed technique.At from 5 to 14 bucks, the Evangelista book is worth every penny for the stories alone. Sure, Evangelista is full of himself and his ridiculous pronouncements about the good old days (trying to convince us we should wait a year before picking up a foil and another year before trying a bout!) are way outdated (not only for the impatient young, but also we older fencers who don't have long enough left to live to put off the fun parts). BUT, the stories have a LOT of timeless strategy that can be applied to your current game.For example (p. 247), Nick gives a detailed account of Aldo Nadi's method of not letting even the best opponents get a single strike in. This comes down to pure aggressiveness, controlling the opponent so he only strikes from weakness, and the very modern (for a guy born in 1899) attitude of "attack, attack attack, THEN ATTACK." This is Fairbairn's knife fighting philosophy and I use it in my blade combat courses, which are about real life survival, not just sport.If you're impatient to get to the how, not just the why or deeper strategy, pass on this and get Cheris, Hutton, Agrippa, Paul Wagner, Cohen, etc. (Search Amazon with any of their names and the word fencing). BUT, if you want to deepen your game strategically, the stories here DO give timeless tips, including a few that have even been forgotten by now that will help you both on the street and in competition.I teach knife combat at blade combat dot com and have no relationship with the author, publisher or Amazon, and LP always pays for the books we review. About the Author

Born and raised in Los Angeles, Dr. Terry Dubrow obtained degrees in medical sciences from Yale University in 1980 and the UCLA School of Medicine in 1986. He completed a residency in general surgery, became chief resident in surgery at the Harbor-UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles, and completed a plastic and reconstructive fellowship at the UCLA Medical Center in and went into private practice in 1993. He has authored more than 30 articles published in peer-reviewed journals and has lectured extensively to professional groups in surgery. A fellow of the American College of Surgeons, he is certified by The American Board of Plastic Surgery and is also a certified expert for the California Medical Board, working extensively since 2000 as an expert in medical malpractice. He is the author of The Acne Cure and writes extensively about health and wellness.             Dr. Dubrow has been showcased as the surgical expert on several television shows including Fox Network’s The Swan, where he performed and helped coordinate extensive contestant transformations, E! Entertainment TV’s Bridalplasty, where he was the surgeon; and since 2013, he has been the star of E!’s hit show, Botched. Dubrow was also one of the three hosts of the network’s show Good Work. Other appearances include The View, TODAY Show, Dr. Phil, CNN's Headline News, CNN Showbiz Tonight, Larry King, Fox News, Fox and Friends, Good Day LA, and The CBS Early Show. Terrible! So poorly written (couldn't they afford a good editor?) and dull, dull, dull. I was shocked because I expected so much more. Nothing new and you can learn more from YouTube videos on anti-aging. Don't waste your money.

I was so excited to get this book since I am a huge fan of both Heather and Dr Dubrow. It really didn't have any new information that I haven't heard from their interviews or watching Botched.

I was excited to get this book but there was nothing helpful in it. I read it cover to cover in a few minutes, don't waste your money.

I expected so much more. I already knew most of this just from reading online. I thought this would be more insider information. They also didn't include some procedures like ulthera that I thought would definitely be in there. The only part I liked and found useful was the info on picking a doctor.

Total waste of money, didn't tell me anything I already had knowledge of, wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

Love the Dubrows but there isn't anything new in this book.

Heather recommends lame old school things like greatlash maybeline mascara. Really? I wanted some real updated information on actual new products. Doesn't happen here.

At first, I was disappointed that it did not list my skin care products. I then realized that they only listed what they recommended. Lots of information for all sorts of treatments! A must buy!!!
